I just learned of this sad news today.  I echo the thoughts of so many others on his countless enviable qualities - character; concern for others; integrity; kindness; caring; genuine; authentic; and funny.  But I’d like to add a slightly different perspective.  We hunted with Howie for over 20 years, and on behalf of all his hunting buddies (a number of whom he has now joined), we’ve lost a cherished companion.  Howie was an integral part of our Adirondack hunting crew, and we so enjoyed his presence year after year.  He was reliable in the woods, trustworthy and a pure pleasure to be with.  Each year, he always had new stories, new jokes and new hunting gadgets.  We always wondered - what new piece of equipment would Howie bring up this year.  There aren’t too many of us left, but we will toast him this fall in Indian Lake, and dedicate the hunt to him.  What a wonderful woodsman, colleague and friend.  He is already missed by all of us.  I have many excellent pictures of him up hunting.  If any family member would like some, please let me know.  Sending my thoughts and best. 

Howard was one of the sweetest, gentlest souls we have ever known. He was so good to his wife Jackie and his son and daughter. We need more people like him in this world. He will be sorely missed. 

Howie was charged with giving five of us a tour of the courthouse on our very first day as new Court Attorneys back in 1996. That was the beginning of him trying to impart all of his knowledge and wisdom about the court. And it never stopped. I so appreciated his willingness to share his experience. He will be missed. My sincere condolences to his family. May his memory be for a blessing.

Howie was the consummate professional. He was a scholar and mentor to numerous court attorneys and referees during his many years at 60 Centre Street.  I greatly valued him as a colleague and truly respected his integrity, work ethics, and wisdom. He was invaluable as the leader of our election law proceedings each year. I will miss him greatly as a friend and fellow court attorney. My deepest sympathies to Jackie and family.
                           

May I extend my sincere condolences for your loss.  While the loss your family has experienced with Howie's  A"H passing is without compare, please let me assure you that there are many others, like myself, who truly feel his absence.  Howie A"H was not just a gentleman  in the full sense of the word, but a true "gentle" man and scholar.  He was a "mensch" in all its meaning and a true friend.  My time working with Howie A"H for many years in the NYS Supreme Court in Manhattan  is considered by me as a true blessing.  I hope you will all be comforted with the knowledge that Howie's A"H memory will remain engraved on the hearts of all who knew him. Howie was a pleasure to work with during my years as the special referee clerk. He was kind, helpful, very knowledgeable and always a gentleman. My deepest condolences to his family.

I will always remember Howie as a man of great kindness and quite dignity.  There to lend a hand or just the right word when needed...........we a diminished by our loss.  His memory is a comfort and blessing to us all.  His whole family should be comforted by remembering his great contribution to all who  knew him.

For 50 years we both knew Howard. He was a great friend and he will never be forgotten. We remember, with fond memories  of our trips to Aruba with our white flag of surrender and Curacao. Of course, the Bronx Zoo, with pith helmet and canteen.

Howie was a gentleman and a scholar, always willing to share his knowledge and expertise.  I remember how helpful he was over many, many years to the Law Secretaries Association where he sat on the Board and gave valuable suggestions.  He was the Association's photographer for years at our Annual Dinner.  His scholarship, generosity and kindness will be dearly missed. 

Howard was a righteous man. He was honest and sincere in word and deed. He will be missed.

I was extremely saddened and shaken to learn today of the passing of Howie. It is a tremendous loss to the Bronx, especially the Van Cortlandt community and the Jewish Center in particular. He was the Shul's Vice President for most of the years of my tenure, serving faithfully and wholeheartedly in that and numerous other capacities, immeasurably helping everyone in our synagogue. 


He will be very sorely missed. My heart goes out to his entire family.

May his memory be for a blessing.

A good friend to me, as well to everyone in Supreme Court, New York County. Howie was a real mensch, always helpful in discussing legal theory and the practical realities of litigation. I will always remember walking with him from 60 Centre to meetings of the Law Secretaries Association at Strook, trying to keep up with him as he outpaced me. He was a member of the board of the Association for decades and it was our privilege to recognize his contribution to the court system. My deep sympathy to Jackie and the rest of his family.

Howie was a kind friend and a very giving colleague.   He was always there to help and offer an unselfish  hand.  He was a gentleman in every sense of the word.  I will miss our talks.  

A colleague at 60 Centre Street for many years, Howie was a gentleman and a scholar. If you had a procedural question, Howie was your guy. He clearly loved the law and was a credit to our profession. Condolences to the family. May his memory be a blessing. 

So very sorry to hear of Howie’s death. We worked together for many years. He was a good man with a kind heart and made everyone in the law department feel welcome to join in weekly lunches in Chinatown.

Howie… My mentor and my friend… He was the Maven of 60 Centre Street… many times we shared moments of friendship and camaraderie; So many lunches in Chinatown… Round table discussions about the law…court  room gossip (LOL) …Family and friends… Dedicated Court employee who loved to share his knowledge with others… I am forever grateful knowing him… Rest in peace brother…Lou Crespo😢  My condolences to Jackie and family.

Howie helped me so much when I started at the court system that I am forever in his debt.  Howie was not only a walking encyclopedia of law, but also a very good and generous person who was always willing to share his knowledge, friendship, and a kind word.
