Irene was born in New York, NY on October 9, 1937 to the late Honorable Francis J. and Katherine Hume McCaffrey. She graduated from Dominican Academy in Manhattan and went on to earn an undergraduate degree from Fordham University and a Master's degree in education from NYU.
Irene was employed as a second grade teacher and a Reading Specialist in the New York City Public Schools.
After her retirement, Irene enjoyed traveling the world and visiting the local museums in NYC.
Irene is lovingly remembered by her nephew, George (Nancy) Metz of Hopewell Junction, NY and her niece, Michelle Shepard of Annandale, VA, as well as their children P.J., Chris (Jill), Ryan (Lauren), Matt, Amy, and Kevin.
The mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, August 20 at 10AM at Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church located at 411 East 68th Street New York, NY 10065.
Interment will be held on Wednesday, August 20 at 12:30PM at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY 10532.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Dominican Academy, 44 East 68th Street, New York, NY 10065.
