Dearest Joanie,
We spent our childhood together in Bayside, went to Bishop Reilly High School and parted in college, connecting again in our adult lives - at “You know you grew up on 210th Street in Bayside if…” 
From days of running bases, flashlight tag, hide-and-seek, neighborhood plays - “our “Polynesian Baby”  and ice skating at Crocheron Park, we shared a fun  childhood.
You grew into an amazing woman, an intrepid traveler, a loving Aunt and most of all, a fighter.  
Joanie, I don’t know anyone who fought so hard for each day.  The cards were stacked against you but you played them beautifully, completing them at your own pace and with grace and dignity.   Miss you every day, dear one.

Joan was my good friend and sister-in-law. She loved her family and friends, adventure, exploring new ideas, and getting to know new people and places. Her courage and stamina was huge. I will miss you Joan.

I first met Joan on a Backroads hiking trip in Norway in 1998 (or so) and she was a friend from then on.  I remember her independence, her successful career, her quick wit and her love of hiking and traveling to new places. She was such a force. 
She never lost her wit or intelligence and it was always love;y to catch up. Her illnesses robbed her of her independence and from being able to do so many of things that previously brought her so much pleasure. COVID taking even more away. And yet none of this ever diminished her fight or will to live. Dear Joan, I hope you are at peace and able to once again enjoy some of those long lost pleasures. Thank you for being a friend, mentor and surrogate big sister
