

Joseph Gerstner, 67, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Manhattan on April 24, 2019. He was being treated for metastasized melanoma for the past 9 months. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Judith Smith, his brother, Louis V Gerstner Jr., and nieces and nephews: Patricia Crump, David Gerstner, Dr. Carolyn Salgado, Dr. Elizabeth Gerstner, Greg Gerstner and James Gerstner. Joe was predeceased by his brothers: James Gerstner and Richard Gerstner. He was predeceased by his nephew Louis V Gerstner III and niece Dr. Cynthia Gerstner.
Joe retired in 2015 from CBS/Group W after a long successful career as a labor attorney. He graduated from Chaminade, and from Boston College, Phi Beta Kappa. He received his JD from New York University and was a member of the NY and DC bar. He served on the boards of his homes: The Dakota in Manhattan and the Barnes Landing Association in East Hampton. He was an avid wine collector. He loved sharing his vast wine collection and encyclopedic knowledge with friends and family.
Funeral mass will be celebrated by Monsignor Ritchie on May15th at 10am at Our Lady’s Chapel in St Patrick’s Cathedral. Frank E Campbell is the funeral director.
