 Lan Ni she was bundled up in a snow suite in her stroller and I thought what a beautiful little cherub.  My heart brakes for your loss.  May her spirit and soul be at peace.  All my love - Karen

Lan Ni will always hold a special place in my heart. My heart is in pieces for this wonderful family - Sloane, Ed and Sam. I feel honored to have known Lan Ni as her 2nd grade teacher. Things didnt always come Naturally to her in school...but no matter what, she worked hard, she worked through it, and she persevered. She was a special, special person to me. She was always one those students that  I knew I could never forget. I am devastated for Lan Ni, her Family, and others that have the pleasure to know her well. She will be missed deeply. 

Dear Sloane, Ed and Sam,

Your family is in my thoughts, and in my heart.  I am so very sorry.  As a kindergartener, Lan Ni embodied kindness and generosity.  I was so fortunate to witness her grow and change in many ways, yet remain such a thoughtful and sweet person.  Lan Ni was, and will continue to be, loved by her family and community.  

LaNi was the same age as my son, her cousin Ezra. Neither of them looked like their mother nor father. Both of them were gifts to us from parents who wanted more for their children. Mine didn't have to travel nearly so far but I know that no matter how closely we held them they never could release some amount of separateness. We can all only imagine. Feelings of being different from everyone just as all teens must pass through.
LaNi was special-compassionate,l, creative, with an enchanting smile while sometimes showing her depth of introspection, serious insights and profound sensitivity. Honestly much of these traits were as relayed to me by her mom and dad. After all, parents see the depths of their child the most. I describe Ezra as a leader, a charmer, honest and a devoted friend. He is different from each and everyone and he is 16. I can only imagine how that feels to a very young man.  This young woman Lan-Ni must have felt the same as did we all at one time.

Lan Ni was light and beauty and warmth and gentleness. Her smile could literally light up a room. We will always remember her as the girl who was always kind to everyone, when all our girls were going through the cattiness stage in elementary school, Lan Ni was still her sweet self, always with a smile or a greeting when you passed her in the halls or on the street. She will be missed more than any words could ever describe.

I had the privelidge of getting to know your daughter this past summer. She was a such a pure and warm-hearted girl, who I always enjoyed talking to, as well as an amazing dancer. She was nothing but kind. She actually introduced me to Boba Tea, which is one of my favorite things now. She will be missed. I am so sorry for your loss,

Although I did not get to know Lan Ni as much as I would have liked over the past few months, The Lan Ni I knew was the sweetest girl and could draw things that ordinary people couldn't begin to think about. She was amazing to have around and without her stevenson will never be the same because we lost such a special and bright part of our community. Lan-ni was a light in my life, in our school and a light to the world. I have known her since Kindergarten, and I remember her amazingly sophisticated drawings that she made at even her earliest years. Art was always her thing. She was multi-talented, thoughtful, kind-hearted. I am so very sorry, so stunned by this news. I hold Sam, Ed and Sloane in the Light of God and I pray for the ease of their suffering.

I am so truly sorry for your loss. I went to SOCAPA with Lan Ni and she was one of the sweetest people I have ever met as well as a talented dancer. Every conversation I had with her was always enjoyable. She also cared so deeply for her friends it was clear she had such a big heart. She will always be remembered.

We are so sad with you. Of course we will never forget that important first day (and beyond) with "our" girls. When Maya re-met Lan Ni at Hollingworth Camp they clicked, which made Steve and me pleased. We cried last night about this saddest of events. Ed and Sloan, know that we also will always have fond memories of Lan Ni.
