Julie Silber and I were together today and Laura’s name came up.  Julie asked if I knew about her death and I had not heard. Very shocked and saddened to hear. I had many, many fun times and lots of laughs over the years as we traveled through the quilt world.  Gone but certainly not forgotten. 

Sad to hear of Laura’s transition.  An acquaintance,  we first met summering in Amagansett decades ago.  Always a delight when we’d run into each other in Manhattan.  Will always remember her radiant smile.  Condolences to her family and friends.

Laura was such a unique individual. She was BY FAR my most favorite storage tenant who had the ability to put a smile on your face as soon as you saw her. Special people come and go in your life but I am fortunate that Laura has left a very indelible mark in my heart. Whenever I had to contact Laura I made it my job, when she answered the phone, to sing a show tune to her as my introduction which meant much laughter ensued. The days are darker now that Laura is no longer here but her memory will always live on with myself and all of my employees who loved this lady so very much. 

I first met Laura on a trip to NYC. I wandered into her shop, figuring that I'd see 'some' quilts, tastefully displayed. Instead, I was inundated with dozens, each more interesting than the one before. And Laura herself was the most intriguing of all.
     Some of her wisdom contributed to my book CRAZY QUILTS, and she was more than willing to share photos of some of her best pieces. I was also fortunate to spend a day with her during a PAAQT conference at Williamsburg, schlepping her around and sharing an evening meal at the local (Colonial) tavern. She was an engaging conversationalist and a kind contributor. I liked her so much.

I am so sorry to learn of Laura's passing. She was one of a kind and an icon in the quilt history world in her own special way. I will never forget visiting her shop shortly after 9-11 and standing with my mouth hanging open in absolute awe at the shear number of antique quilts piled to the ceiling. Laura very generously gave me access to all her binders during my visit. As I poured thru them I thought I had died and gone to heaven. Rest in peace, Laura. 

Laura was so amazingly willing to share her knowledge. I cherish her book regarding optical illusions in quilts. And I think all the appraisers who could make it to our annual professional organization meeting will remember her wonderful sense of humor as she told us about the international business of quilt selling.
She was so generous sharing her joy in the great beauty and history of quilt-making.  I will miss her.

Laura was such fun-- and so welcoming to me when I first entered the world of antique quilts. I always looked for her at the events I attended because I knew I'd see a friendly face, and if we were part of the same group heading off for dinner, we'd have a grand time. When SHE once asked ME what I thought of a quilt it was one of those "I knew I'd made it when" moments, and I treasured the notion that she considered me a source with something worthwhile to offer. I will miss her. 

I am so sorry to hear of Laura's passing.  She was an incredibly knowledgeable quilt historian, and a real asset to textile studies.  She will be greatly missed by all.

Having the pleasure of meeting Laura at antique  and quilt events throughout  the years she was  a “ one of a kind “ person  whom I regarded and respected  highly.   We had good chats on those few occasions. 
She had an eye for quilts, folk art, unique pieces  and so much more !

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Laura.  I will always remember her fondly.  She was a very generous person with her experience and knowledge of quilts.  I visited her several times over the years for lunch, and then playing with quilts in her "store".  How she managed to pile those quilts so high defied physics!  We attended several museum exhibits together.  She was a great companion to those events, giving a different perspective and appreciation I may have otherwise missed.  She was a respected member of the Antique and Quilt Communities, and her passing leaves hole that will not be easily patched.  My sincerest condolences to her friends and family.  May her memory be truly eternal.
