Born on April 7, 1951 in Queens, Lou lived life defined by kindness, devotion and selflessness. He was a committed father, husband, grandfather and friend, and a steady presence so many people leaned on and looked up to.
Lou was known for his integrity, character, and unflinching honesty, blazing his way forward in spite of a challenging upbringing. He lived a remarkable rags-to-riches story that reshaped both Wall Street and New York City's business culture.
Beginning his career in the 1970s as a recruiter, he creatively submitted himself as an applicant to break into finance - an unconventional move that launched a transformative career. He went on to invent and build a groundbreaking financial business, prime brokerage, that now generates more than $40 billion annually.
Lou was a philanthropic force in New York City, dedicating his influence, resources and leadership to causes that strengthened the city and its institutions. He mentored and supported many who have gone on to make a huge impact. As his success grew, so did his commitment to giving back. He became involved in philanthropy, serving on the boards of multiple organizations including Answer the Call (NYC Police & Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund), League Education and Treatment Center, Hedge Funds Care, Student Sponsor Partnership and was named an honorary NYPD lieutenant - reflecting his dedication to public service, community, and New York City itself.
Above all, Lou was most proud of his family. He is survived by his wife Karen, daughter Stefanie (husband Jon), son George, son Stephon (wife Crystal), his adored grandchildren and his sister Harriet. They will carry his love and lessons with them always.
Memorial visitations will be held at Frank E. Campbell - The Funeral Chapel, located on the 4th Floor at 1076 Madison Ave, New York, New York, 10028, USA. The first visitation is scheduled for February 12, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The second visitation will occur on February 13, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

Lou was a larger-than-life figure—selfless, generous, and endlessly committed to creating opportunities for others. Beyond being a prolific fundraiser and dedicated board member for numerous charities, he truly lived the values he preached, especially the importance of mentorship. With an extraordinary work ethic and a remarkable ability to carve out opportunities against all odds, he believed in leveling the playing field, ensuring that those from less fortunate circumstances could also succeed.
In his honor, we are raising money to establish The Lou Ricciardelli Legacy Fund, supporting causes that reflect Lou’s lifelong commitments.
