Born: September 16, 1943
Entered Into Rest: August 30, 2019
Born in Goodwater, Alabama to her dedicated, God-fearing and precious mother Ruby Lee Corley (Brown) and William Lee Corley, affectionately known as Bill.
A small town Alabama girl brought to NYC in 1954, Lula had sophisticated big city style coupled with southern manners and sensibilities, and an unforgettable spirit.
Her energy and light, along with her breathtaking beauty, filled every room she entered and left a lasting impression.
Lula died of a broken heart...
after losing her son, Carl, at the young promise-filled age of 33, in 2005; followed by her mother in 2009 and brother, Marvin, in 2014.
They are reunited now...
She knows nothing more of the heartbreak in this world. She is in perfect peace with God and her most beloved.
Lovingly referred to as "Dee" by her father, she was known to her mother, family and the rest of the world as simply, "LULA."
There was no one like her.
Spelled LULA, her name and personality memorable, her beauty timeless, like a song.
Lula attended Jamaica Vocational High School in Far Rockaway, Queens and completed college coursework at Medgar Evers College, earning her teaching license.
Prior to going into education with the NYC Board of Ed, Lula led an outstanding, accomplished career as a skilled Dressmaker in Manhattan's Garment District. She was widely known for her unparalled fashion, creativity, untouchable style and ingenuity.
Her greatest achievements, she'd say, were her two children, whom she raised well, taught the importance of education, and cared for impeccably, as only a Virgo mother could.
A "single mother" she was not -- she was her children's everything and due to the diligence and determination and brilliance of this dynamic woman, they wanted for nothing.
Surrounding them with love and safety, she taught her children to read at an early age. An excellent teacher to anyone fortunate enough to be her student, she taught her son and daughter good values and instilled in them the love of learning and underscored the freedom afforded with the achievements of higher education.
Lula was capable beyond belief and could do more in a day than most could do in a week, and would complete more in a season than some think about doing in a full year. Her lifetime: remarkable.
Loving mother of the late Carl Daniel Corley and Tiffany Chanel Corley
Dear sister to Doris Jean Corley and the late Marvin Edward Corley
Beloved daughter to Ruby Lee Corley and William Lee Corley
Survived by nieces Maria, Debra and nephew Tony as well as her nephews Calvin, Kevin and nieces Ebony and ____
Friskey, our ever-faithful and pampered dog, whose passing was our first taste of heartbreak
Peter and Peggy, the happiest and most spoiled parakeets ever (versions 1-10)
And countless Family and Friends, too numerous to name but whom she well-adored, whose lives and hearts she touched FOREVER
Remember her well: LULA
Her name will be etched in our hearts till the end of time.
