My condolences go out to Betsy and Bill.  I had the pleasure of dining with Margot and Mason along with Edward Asner in NYC in 1989!!  What a wonderful evening we had.  I had never met Mason and Margot prior to that evening, but after only spending a few hours with them it was evident that they were soul mates and they couldn't have been more kind to a bight eyed college acting student seeking advice about the industry.   I often wished that I would see them and Ed again someday and be able to let them know how much I enjoyed their company that wonderful evening.  May she rest in eternal peace with her beloved Mason.  

Margot:

I have been privileged to have known Margot for most of my life.

First, I knew her as my mother’s friend. Another girl from Utica, who had moved to New York. She was like a character from Dorothy Parker’s Roundtable. She was smart, funny and beautiful. 

As I got older, I got to know other sides of Margot. When I was first working in the film industry, I looked to her as a Hollywood insider and she was always generous in sharing her insight. 

Later, I saw her as my friend as our conversations expanded beyond show business to include literature and food, two of our shared passions. Margot always had a great appreciation for the elements of a wondrous life. 

Finally, I knew Margot as an employer, when we she asked me to redesign sections of  her homes. She was a worldly women with a finely honed aesthetic, which made the process a lot of fun. She appreciated and collected fine art, and lived in a finely curated home.

I will miss our visits and conversations, her poached salmon and her laughter.

She was a wonderful woman,lovely and compassionated,funny and always ready for an smile ,kindness, humbled and feeling others people pain.Chatting with her was my pleasure for a lot of years .I'll be for ever honored to have been close to such a remarkable human being.

    Margot, daughter of Mae, my Nana's best friend. Growing up in Utica, New York, surviving it's freezing winters walking to school in knee socks with my mother "Nornie", having escapades in their small town universe. When both families moved to Manhattan, the girls continued to live parallel and intersecting lives, each with her own style, immersed in the culture of the big city. My mother and Margot were sometimes rivals but always friends.

     With her flashing, girlish smile and giggling chuckle, Margot was discerning and always up to date on the current book to read and movie to see.
     When Margot bought her house in East Hampton suddenly she was not just my mother's friend. I made a garden for her new life there. During that time small details of her life became known to me through incidental conversations during my frequent drop-in visits and dinners of poached salmon with dill. It was a shared time in our lives and one which redefined our relationship. 
     Thinking of you, Betsy, Bob, Bill, Alix  and Carol. Paul and I are sorry we cannot be there to hear your memories, share stories and gather together to celebrate Margot. Sending our love.

To Betsy and Billy,
I was so sorry to hear the news and wanted to send my deepest condolences to you.  My mother Roz and your mother had such a beautiful, deep and sweet friendship over these many years.  If you are unaware of how they met, it was by a fax (back in the day) that my mom inadvertently and, fortunately, sent to your mom with a lot of personal financial information.  She was so worried when she realized the mistake that she sent a follow up to see if the recipient could help.  Your mother graciously responded with such kindness that they became fast friends.  They attended countless shows together and went to dinner - my mother insisting that she pick your mom up in her car rather than your mom sending her limo for my mom - it was so sweet to see their back and forth. It was always such a pleasure to witness their friendship - I have such warm and happy memories of visiting your mother at her apartment - she was so special - I will cherish the memories.  
Again, I send you my deepest condolences - if I can be there for you in some way, please don't hesitate to let me know.

I tried to write and call, but contact information is too old.  Seeing news of your mother's passing brought back a flood of great memories from time spent at your house in Westport.  And, though my folks are both gone, I know my parents were huge fans of Margot's.  My sincere condolences and I hope your mom was able to go peacefully with family nearby.
