  I am so saddened to find out about the loss of Marie Lin.  Marie was a dear friend when we worked together long ago at P.S. 163 . More recently we would meet  up on the Upper West Side. Marie was a beautiful, smart and compassionate person.  She will be greatly missed.
  Sincere condolences to her children Annie and Nicky, whom she adored and who both were always there for her.    May you be comforted by wonderful memories of your mom.

So terribly sorry about sweet Marie’s passing. My heart goes out to her wonderful children, Annie and Nikie. I’ve known them since they were little children. I also remember their father, John and his passing. A wonderful man and a sad loss for the family. Marie was so smart and terrific. She came to a reading of one of my plays once and gave me the most thoughtful and concise evaluation that I ever had. Really appreciated it.

When Nickie was a little boy I thought he might be right for a part in a play and that  I heard was looking for his type. Marie contacted the casting director and I believe they found him already too old. I was very disappointed.

So Wilkie and I have known Marie ever since we moved into the building... We will miss her...

I worked with Marie as a member of the PS 87 Staff and as a parent of a PS 87 student.  She was a great support to me when my son was about to enter Middle School.
She was always supportive of the students and gave extra time and attention to those children who needed it. 
I remember her talking to students about the "PS 87 way."   I will always remember Marie's kindness, thoughtfulness and advice.

I think it was a chance meeting in a playground in Riverside Park. I was an energetic, over excitable young boy but somehow Marie seemed to find the good in me. And allowed me and my brother to befriend Annie and Nicky. That started a friendship that has lasted almost 40 years now.

Lima beans, clarinets, practicing my legal skills (honed from watching People's Court) - all essential memories from my childhood took place in Marie's house.

So I mourn her leaving us. But I will always remember her warmth, her sense of humor, her toughness. And I will never forget that indomitable smile. Thank you for making the world a brighter, better place.

I was so sorry to hear about your beautiful mother's passing. Marie was such a warm, giving person, so easy to talk to and be with. We had a long history, going back to  PS 75 and then as volunteers in Mrs. Moldovan's class in PS 145. Later, I would drop in on her at PS 87 and share a few moments there too.

She cared so much about you two and told me with pride how Annie loved her job at the Library and how Nicky was making his mark at the Board.

The world was a better place with Marie in it and a sadder place without her.

Bob and I want to extend our deepest condolences to Annie, Nicky and to your extended family. We knew Marie as neighbors do, having lived in the same building and raising our children around the same time; showing concern when we hadn't seen each other in a while. What a warm, delicious smile Marie always had when she greeted us, whether it was at the elevator,  picking up our mail, at our apartment doors or talking politics on the way to cast our votes. Annie and Nick are the same way, as was John, always greeting us with their warm smiles, no matter how their days were going. Marie, thank you for the  sunshine you added to our lives. We will miss you.

I worked with Marie at PS 87. While we only worked together for a short time, I will always remember how much she loved our community and how much she was loved in return.  Rest peacefully, Marie Lin.

How honored and fortunate I am to have known Marie Lin!  Marie was a compassionate, kind and generous person who always had time to  counsel and guide my students, giving the best of advice.  She became a friend, as well as my colleague. I so enjoyed our dinners together, our get-togethers in Middleburg and conversations at book club. I will miss her smile, humor and intelligence.  My sincere sympathy to Annie, Nicky and their families. 

My husband Don and I have lived for many decades in the same building  on Riverside Drive as Marie.  It was always a highlight to see her in the lobby or sidewalk and have a lengthy political discussion for which she was always prepared and very well informed.  Sadly, during the last few times health replaced politics, but during our last few interactions she  introduced me to Curcumin and also insisted that I go out and buy CBD Oil at the health food store.  Miraculously, both worked well!  Marie has a special place in our hearts and will always be remembered with great fondness.

I worked with Marie at PS 87. I always admired and treasured her compassion, wisdom, humor, commitment, and willingness to speak honestly and from the heart. She was an essential advocate for all the students. She was both a treasured colleague and a role model. May her memory provide comfort and inspiration to her family and all of us who knew her.

It was a privilege to have known Marie.  She was an incredibly warm, generous, and giving person.  Super-smart, very wise, always humble.  Never pretentious or pushy—but she got her point across very clearly. 

She demonstrated her generosity of heart throughout her  life.  It infused her work with children and her concern for her colleagues.  Love of family, devotion to family, and unwavering generosity to her family members were Marie Lin hallmarks.  She was an extraordinarily strong and compassionate woman.   That compassion was never more evident than in her home hospice care for her sister Marge.

She was a loyal and giving friend, honest and true. I turned to her so many times for advice throughout her life .  She was a very good listener—especially over a glass of wine or a Manhattan—and her advice was invariably thoughtful and on the mark.  It was always delivered in her characteristically sweet way.

It is a wonderful thing to have a life-long friend, who has shared all of your up’s and down’s.     She is irreplaceable.



I can't believe that I will not see Marie again. I worked with Marie at PS 87 and so appreciated how she cared for everyone and made the world a better place. We reconnected a few years ago through a book group and I valued her kindness, wisdom and wonderful laugh. I thought that there would be more to share a meal, a conversation, an experience.  My heart goes out to the family.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Marie's passing. She was one of  the kindest and most caring and generous people I've ever known. I was honored to be counted among her friends. For me, she was family. 
I will miss her sorely.

Marie was an amazing, joyful and funny person. I remember the Fourth of July fireworks watching the night sky from her deck.  Marie was  smart, generous,  kind and funny.

A kind and loving counselor who always told it straight and supported me through my elementary school days, she helped me with problems time and time again, chatting over games like Bejeweled and Lego buildings.


Marie made me feel loved and safe in the darkest period of my life. I spent every single day in her office in elementary school and she was always there to lend a patient and supportive ear, never turned me away, and it made all the difference. 
The world lost such an important, profoundly caring light, one that touched me and my family forever when we needed her most, and I am forever grateful to her. 

Marie was one of the best of humankind.   An amazingly lovely, caring and wonderful human being.  She was like a surrogate mother to my kids who lost their own mother when they were at PS87.   Marie will be so missed.  We are SO grateful she was in our lives.  She made the world a better place.  Thank you Marie.   To her family - she will be missed. 

Marie was such a wonderful person, I felt very honored to know her both as a student and then as a staff member at PS87. Her family was her world and the world was her family. Love to all.

Marie, we were friends for 55 years. Your passing leaves a huge hole in my heart. Annie, Nick, your Mom lived for you. I share your loss. 

Marie Lin was an amazing, caring and thoughtful person. I will miss the many wonderful conversations we would have each day. I remember once sitting in her office and mentioning how much I loved a poster of a house in the Japanese forest during a snowfall and Marie Lin literally took the poster down and handed it to me. That was the kind of person Marie Lin was always giving to her students, co-workers and friends. May she rest in peace.

I have great memories of the many times Marie and her wonderful children come to our restaurant to share a family moment of merriment and laughter.
It always gave me great joy to talk to Marie. She projected an immense humanity and her love for people was tangible and sincere.
She will be missed, but I am grateful to have had the priviledge to know her.

i am heartbroken to lose my marie. we all grew up together at 260 and of course i remember mr lin with love, too, and marie's sister, who i had the privilege of meeting and knowing briefly through her own illness. marie was so proud of you, annie and nick, and she got to meet baby delphine, too, what a blessing!  in the past few years, we marched together, talked politics, health, books, food, employment, but most of all family.  please know that the Lin family has my greatest respect and love always.  deb xx

I will miss my dear friend Marie. Loved working with her at 87 and also was so thankful for all the support she gave to my son Patrick when he was there in school. He still remembers spending time in her office when school was challenging.

And Marie became my theatre buddy and sometime dinner partner since I left New York.
