

Marino Estrada of New York, NY passed away on Friday, October 6, 2023 at the age of 88. He was born in La Union Valle, Colombia, South America in 1935 of his father Anibal de Jesus Estrada and mother Natalia Abadia. He was the eldest of 12 siblings. He fell in love and married the love of his life Gladys Lucia Estrada Velazquez and was married for an amazing 54 years. Marino and Gladys emigrated in 1965 to the United States where they settled in New York City.
He is survived by his son, Fernando Estrada, daughter-in law Sang-Ok Park, granddaughter Ariel Estrada, daughter Gladys Sabatier, son-in-law Isidro “Nino” Sabatier, granddaughter Isabella Lourdes Sabatier and Step-grandson Nicholas Sabatier. He is also survived by his sisters Aida Estrada Escobar, Doris Neto, Gloria Estrada, Ana Bolena Estrada and his brothers Miguel Angel Estrada, Guillermo Estrada, and Laureano Estrada. Surviving him are also many cousins and friends in Colombia as well as many nieces and nephews which he adored.
He enjoyed working for The U.S. Coast Guard as a civilian for 35 years. So much so that during his entire 35 year career he never called out sick once. He received many awards and accolades for such dedication and service to the U.S. Coast Guard as a civilian employee. To know Marino personally was to love him because of his kindness and unselfish nature, always thinking of others. He was a loving and gentle soul with a heart of gold. He adored all his family but his true ultimate loves were his two granddaughters Isabella and Ariel. He was full of life.
He loved to laugh and enjoyed his many daily walks. He enjoyed a good soccer match with a cerveza (beer) in hand. He was a true New Yorker with all of its hustle and bustle. He loved his only home in which he lived for over 58 years. He loved to people watch and liked the energy that only New York exudes. He will be truly missed but filled our lives with beautiful memories that will last a lifetime.
A committal service for Marino will be held Friday, October 13, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Trinity Church Cemetery & Mausoleum, 770 Riverside Drive, New York, NY 10032. Prior to the committal service will be a funeral service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Ascension Roman Catholic Church, 221 W 107th Street, New York, NY 10025.
