
Mary Denise McMahon, 80, of New York City, formerly of Mendham, New Jersey, died peacefully on April 9th of Alzheimer’s. She was surrounded by her daughters. Born August 20, 1935 in New York City, she is predeceased by her parents, Dennis and Marie Hynes, her brother Richard Hynes, her husband John Thomas McMahon and her nieces Mary Gwen and Audrey Hynes.
Dennie was a devoted mother; she worked in fashion in her twenties, and later became a teacher at Gill St. Bernard’s School in Bernardsville, NJ and then went on to a career as a Trust Officer at the Summit Bank Corporation. In her retirement, she pursued her love of art, took long walks in Riverside Park, and joyfully helped look after her six grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Marie McMahon (James Sweeney) of Hong Kong, Kara McMahon Cross (James) of New York City, and Elissa Montgomery McMahon of Needham, Massachusetts; her grandchildren Maeve and Neala Sweeney; James, Peter, and John Cross; and Jack Arentowicz; and her nephews Michael and James Hynes.
A wake to honor her long and rich life will be held at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 12th, 4-7pm. The funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, April 13th, 10am at the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus (207 W. 96th Street).
