A lifelong New Yorker, Ms. Bernstein was active in the Bronx Democratic Club where she was a vocal advocate for the Bronx. Her career began as a fundraiser for the National Asthma Center and quickly moved her skills to the Jewish Guild for the Blind. After a brief career on the marketing team for Lehman Center for the Performing Arts, she became the Communications Director for The New York City Board of Elections where she stayed as the voice (and face) of the Board until she retired.
A former beauty queen, she enjoyed working as a full-figured model whose face illuminated campaigns for Macy’s, Talbot, and Family Circle. Ms. Bernstein was a proud card-carrying member of the Screen Actors Guild and lent her talents recording for the Jewish Institute for the Blind. She also remained a dedicated member of the Riverdale Temple until her illness.
She leaves her legacy in her children, Jennifer Murphy (Bruce Carroll), Dana Kuznetzkoff (Carl Monte), Jeffrey T. Bernstein (Kristin) and stepchildren, Michael Bernstein (Casey), Resa Scalone and Leslie Bernstein (Jon Blum), as well as her four grandchildren: Jeremiah Murphy, Kevin Michael Murphy, Emily Bernstein and Sadie Bernstein and seven step-grandchildren: Jesse Bernstein, Heather Bernstein, Aaron Bernstein, Daniel Scalone, Jessica Scalone, Ian Carroll and Emma Carroll. In addition to her children, she is survived by her sister Maxine Dorn (Sy), her nieces, nephews and many grand nieces and nephews.
