SKRILOFF--Naomi (Krinsky), of Battery Park City, formerly of Larchmont, NY and Wading River, NY passed away on December 15, 2022 at the gorgeous age of 99. Naomi was a woman of valor, known for her trademark fresh flower behind her ear.
She is survived by her older sister Ruth Bloch and her daughters Lisa Skriloff and Nina Skriloff. She will be dearly missed by son-in-law Dan and Lisa's partner, John, as well as close and extended family members along with many loving friends. Born in Brooklyn, Naomi was a graduate of Brooklyn College. She is predeceased by Leonard Skriloff, her devoted husband of 68 years, whom she met on the beach in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn. After being stationed in San Francisco during WWII, Leonard sent Naomi a post war telegram to join him there to get married. They were wed there in 1945 notwithstanding a snowstorm detour on Naomi's cross-country train trip and four days trying to find each other (pre-cell phones!). Naomi had an early job as a social worker prior to packing up the family 7+ times as Leonard's career took the family from New York to Germany, England and California before settling in Larchmont, New York.
Once her daughters were out of high school, she earned her Master's degree and taught at The Hallen School in New Rochelle, New York where she relished working with her students. She taught well into her 80s when she and Leonard relocated to Manhattan where they took up residence in Battery Park City. There, Naomi finally enjoyed retirement taking the M20 bus all around Manhattan enjoying city life using a walker emblazoned with political bumper stickers.
A loving wife, wonderful mother and fantastic educator, Naomi was an incredible role model with an insatiable curiosity and passion for learning. She was an avid reader and traveler with a love of life, adventure, flea markets, Negronis, the heel of a good loaf of bread, oysters and Anderson Cooper. Every experience, good or bad, was an opportunity for growth and wonder. She always said to her daughters, and they always say to others: "My mother always said, if you have a mouth, use it." We envision her reunited with Leonard where they once again will dance the Peabody together. It's not going to be the same world without Naomi.
