Last year, while talking to my husband about brilliant minds and really intelligent people, Dr Scheinfeld immediately came to my mind (mind you, the last time i saw him was in 2012, while still living in NYC), and then i decided to go to Youtube and see if i could find anything about him to show to my husband. I indeed found it, and went straight to the comments on this particular video. One cannot imagine my shock when i read “RIP”. My husband was able to see the disbelief on my face. I did a research and i found out the this wonderful and highly intelligent man has passed away. I was genuinely sad. I saw him first time in his office in 2011 and i was amazed by his knowledge, humility and the way he carried himself. As i am typing this message, i have my eyes filled with tears. The world has not been the same without him. What a deep admiration i have for him, for his doings, for his achievements! My deepest condolences for the family and rest assured that he will be always in my prayers. Rest in Peace, Dr Noah Scheinfeld, you have done amazing things and left a real, true legacy.

I am shocked and unbelievably saddened to read of Dr. Scheinfeld's premature passing. The world lost a brilliant, gracious and kind physician. He was an integral part of the diagnosis of my mast cell disease just months ago. He was endlessly curious about my rare condition and was responsible for getting me on a good regiment of drugs to combat the debilitating symptoms (he was better than any hematologist I had seen!).  Just last October he spent an hour on a Saturday talking me through the research he had done on my condition and advising me on correct dosing of my prescriptions. Between hospital stays and appts I have seen 100+ doctors over the last year and Dr. Scheinfeld was among a small few (3) who were EXCELLENT.  To his sweet family--I am so sorry. You lost a husband/father/son way too early and the world lost an unbelievable, irreplaceable man and physician. Thank you for sharing him with us. 

I just learned of Dr. Scheinfeld's passing.  He was my doctor for the past 15+ years.  He truly will be missed.  Dr. Scheinfeld saw "people" rather than "patients" - he was a rare and caring individual who will always be remembered.

Dr Scheinfeld was a true Renaissance Man, an erudite individual whose uncommon intelligence had a thoughtful common touch. His empathy was tangible and yet he was challenging in his cultivation of a sense of responsibility for both patient and physician.  His humor was profound in its understanding of the human condition - he joked that Australians with over-exposure to the sun (me among them) were probably his best, most frequent patients in New York. Noah saved many lives, extended many lives and enhanced many lives. His profound influence will resonate for many generations to come. 

Dr. Sheinfeld was a brilliant and compassionate man. I so looked forward to my office visits. He was always full of information and explained his suggestions for treatment more fully than any other physician I had ever met.  He always called to follow up treatment, sometimes chatting beyond my medical situation. I am deeply saddened by his loss. May his memory be a blessing to his family and friends alike. He was a most unique man.  SN.

Dr. Scheinfeld appears to have many complementary and satisfied patients.  My regret is his CNN special disclaiming Morgellons as an actual medical condition. I would love to know his thoughts on the subject prior to his death. So many people are afflicted with this condition and have nowhere to turn.

Noah was  a lovable, hamish genius.  Intellectually , I have never met a more accomplished man, Harvard Law graduate, Yale medical school, Columbia undergraduate, and masters in history, graduate of Ramaz.  He was a  prolific writer in the dermatology literature and gave spot on opinions about the way medical practice is headed. But  beyond his degrees , his vast knowledge was endless from Talmud to literature.  While sitting shiva with him for his mom he enlightened me on the Fox and Hedgehog by Isaiah Berlin; hedgehogs, who view the world through the lens of a single defining idea and  foxes, who draw on a wide variety of experiences and for whom the world cannot be boiled down to a single idea .  
I always was happy when Noah would sit next to me at grand rounds or conference and give me his wisdom on a case.  I once  met up with  Noah at the American Academy of Dermatology meeting , he said - " Sheryl let's break bread together and catch up."  Whenever Noah would see me at a dermatology conference he would always come over to catch up.   I am so  very sad that I will never see Noah's smiling brilliant face rushing toward me  at a dermatology conference again. 
Noah was a gift to us for the 55 years that he walked among us.  May his memory be a blessing to his brothers, children, late wife, colleague, friends, patients and the many lives that he touched in his extraordinary Noah way.  I miss you my friend.,    His nishama was kind, menschlik and exuded Tikun Olam.

I have been a patient of Dr. Scheinfeld's for several years now and quite simply enjoyed going to him for the monthly conversation's had in those10 or 15 min appointments.  He was a brilliant man. I respected his medical opinions of course but even more than that I looked forward to discussing the latest life events and learned a lot from his vast experiences.  On many occasions he would remind me to never forget that he was "the man" , "a fat cat" of sorts , especially the time he reached out to a doctor of mine that he did not approve of the care he was giving me and made his opinions known in a rather stern "in charge" way.   It was as that moment that my admiration for him was cemented.  He was a specialist but he always treated the whole person if you ask me.   When he didn't think I was taking serious enough my recent cholesterol test he half jokingly asked me to sign off on a release of liability form so that I would not hold his office responsible should some harm come from my lack of caring for my own health.   Of course he was joking but none the less he got his point across and held me to my promise of improving my health.  I had to miss my appointment on May 30th and deeply regret that now.   He always spoke fondly of his boys and I truly admired his dedication and fierce drive.  He leaves a true void in the medical community and in my own personal medical hurdles as well as the many people he helped daily.   I always went away from our visits with a new piece of knowledge or a new idea and I will truly miss him.  My sincere condolences to his family, colleagues, friends and staff.  Rest in Peace Dr. Scheinfeld.

He wasn't just my Dr. he became my friend and me being a introverted person  that's no easy task as a patient of Doc Shieldfeld commuting to his office every two weeks became routine . I suffer from HS a painful inflammatory skin condition my last visit to his office was 5/31/19,he called me 2 days later Sunday night so I feel like I was one of the last people he spoke to, he asked me how I was feeling, he sounded so tired, I regret not asking about his well-being. With that being said this man was a tireless Professional  who has kept me going when I should have fallen long ago ,I'll miss you beyond measure my friend




   I was shocked, I just saw him a few days ago. I read all the memories that were written.  They individually and collectively captured this brilliant uncommon man.

   I have terrible skin issues.  I always joked with Dr. Scheinfeld  that he must have a wing in his home named after me.  He assured me that it was the people at my insurance company that named that  their beach houses after me.

   While he poked and prodded, injected and froze, we passed the time talking about our children.  When he talked about his sons he was not Dr. Scheinfeld, he was a regular dad gushing with pride.

I can't believe how devastated I am to find out the Dr. Scheinfeld has passed away. He was not only my doctor and my savior but a good friend to me. First he helped to cure my HS. Then he saved my life when I had flesh eating bacteria and he rushed me to the hospital to save my life. For that I have never been able to repay him for. Lastly I thought of him as a friend, because he called me and we talked about silly stuff and serious stuff and we always counted on each other to make each other laugh. It breaks my heart to know he's gone. My deepest sympathy to his wife and his two sons. I know his loss is great not only to his family but  to the medical community. I never thought I'd say that a doctor was my good friend but Doc was.  RIP my friend!

My condolences and prayers to the Scheinfeld family. I was a patient of Dr. Scheinfeld for several years and I am in utter shock. His passing is teaching me how human our doctors are.  I didn’t know the last time I was in his office would be the last time. 

I’m thankful for the work he did with my diagnosis of HS. He was the first and only doctor that knew how to treat it effectively. He’d always say “I wish I had a magic wand to help you” and I’d say, “I know you do, I know”. 

We had our moments, but I could talk to him. There was a moment last year where I wasn’t sleeping well, I had a lot of stress, anxiety, and I couldn’t stop crying. He took his time that day, spoke to me and made sure I didn’t leave his office a mess.

He asked me if I liked comedy, and I said: “I love it”. He played Dave Chappelle’s famous Prince Basketball skit. I wiped away my tears and laughed, hard. This moment is how I want to remember Dr. Scheinfeld, thank you for all your hard work, may you Rest In Peace. 

 You will be missed. 


I met Noah at Fenway Park in 1986. We were entering students at Harvard Law School and met when we were seated in the outfield bleachers among the other entering students. We were in complete agreement that the Red Sox were awful, though our reasoning was different about why this was so (Noah's childhoood sympathies lay with NY, mine with Cincinnati). We continued to be friends though law school and shared many meals during those three years, even though we had only one class together: Tax with Louis Kaplow in our second year. We sat side-by-side through the Kaplow course, often trading barbed witticisms about something in that class. Our friendship was built upon a shared love of history: Noah had gone to grad school and taken his MA before going on to law, while I was in the midst of completing my JD/PhD in legal history. I know that, after law school, his interests shifted again from law to medicine, but for me, Noah will ever remain the baseball loving, history loving, exuberant young man I met when we were new law students together. 

I grieve with you for his loss and hope that his memory may be a blessing.

I'm deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Dr. Scheinfeld. I've been a patient for nearly three years. I've been reflecting on our early morning sarcastic barbs and sidebar political and literary discussions. I had great trust in his intellect and medical expertise, but I mostly enjoyed our shared sense of humor. I will miss him.

I was surprised and saddened by Dr. Scheinfeld's passing. I saw him every few months. He treated my minor problems, so I would not have major ones. He always greeted me cheerfully, "Greetings and Salutations" and a handshake. His expertise was without question. His caring was obvious and appreciated. He kept a picture of his boys in the office and loved talking about them. His erudition was infectious. I remember him talking about the Peloponnesian War once. Few dermatologists would be so scholarly. He'll be missed by me and obviously by his family. He did lots of good in his too short life.

I am saddened by Dr. Noah's passing. I couldn't believe it. I've been his patient since last year. I am glad my doctor referred me to him. He was able to treat my condition. Sometimes he would practice his Spanish with me. He will be missed. I offer my heartfelt sympathy to his family, friends and staff. Rest in peace.

I am DEVASTATED.  Dr. Scheinfeld was my guy. When I was first diagnosed with my autoimmune dermatological condition I freaked out then took action. The quest - to find the authority on this condition and I did that when I found Dr. S. I cannot believe that this brilliant mind with the driest humor (which I adored) is gone.  He will be FOREVER missed!!!!! To the family and staff that worked with him, I offer my DEEPEST condolences for your loss.

He was such an amazing person and doctor. He was kind and caring. He would spend hours researching the newest literature to help manage my psoriasis.

I am so saddened by Noah's passing. He was my friend and colleague. He was brilliant in medicine and knew the literature well and was always up-to-date, but he also knew how to have a good time, as I always enjoyed spending time with him at meetings. He was respected by his peers and was a frequent speaker at conferences and other medical meetings. It is a loss to medicine and to me personally. Baruch dayan ha'emet.

I googled ‘best dermatologists in Manhattan’ some years ago and found Dr. Scheinfeld.  Some reviewers were perplexed by his  bedside manner, but I wasn’t looking for tea and sympathy, I wanted the best doctor I could find.  Seeing multiple reviewers say how knowledgeable and qualified he was made it an easy decision.  Last year he identified skin cancer on my face, which ordinarily would require cosmetic surgery.  However, when he found out I was temporarily out of work he set about with gusto to see how he could treat it without it impacting ‘all the interviews’ I would be doing.  He was a very good, kind and caring man. I was completely shocked today when I called for my check-up.  Please accept my heartfelt sympathies.

I can't believe this! I found out just now that he is gone. I suffered since I was 16 with H.S. and didn't  even know what I had. I searched long and hard for a diagnosis.  He gave it. From there he treated me and my life has improved so much thanks to him! Omg this is just heartbreaking.  R.I.P Doc

I have been a patient of Dr. Scheinfeld's for the past four years, and he was the only doctor who invested his time and efforts into ensuring my HS was under control.  

Since I began my job in December, Dr. Scheinfeld knew I couldn't leave work early, so he stayed in the office late to see me every other Tuesday evening  at 6:45. Several times, he even came into the office on weekends to fit me in -- though, these times, he wasn't in robe: just head-to-toe Columbia apparel.

The last Tuesday evening I saw him, it was pouring rain. I decided to stay inside the office until my Uber arrived, as opposed to waiting outside. We chatted and laughed. He shared with me his love of learning -- he even pulled out Harvard Law degree -- and we spoke about our families, my career in journalism, college, and more. 

With every "greetings and salutations," he gave me, I felt more comfortable and secure in his care. I was very fond of him, and will miss him (and his bluntness and wit) deeply.

Dr. Scheinfeld was a brilliant gentleman, whom I referred to in appreciation as Dr. Freeze because he had that frozen nitrogen ready all the time.  He was the person who treated a cancerous spot on my arm when I had no idea it was cancerous.  He often told me he wanted to avoid seeing me at Mount Sinai to which I wholeheartedly agreed.  In our brief sessions we discussed opera and religion, among other things. He was generous and thorough. I appreciated that when I had an appointment I was in and out quickly as well as his smile when we greeted each other.  He loved his family, and I use to tease him that after I had an appointment he would be able to take his wife out to dinner. I am shocked, and saddened that we have lost a great doctor and blessed individual who entered my life for a season.  

Dr. Scheinfeld healed me when no one else could. He was an exceptionally brilliant medical mind, and a kind, funny, thoughtful person. He helped so many people. For me, he wasn’t just a doctor but a friend. I will miss him so much. 

I knew Noah throughout our residency training in Dermatology. With Noah as a senior resident I was a benefactor of his deep understanding in Dermatology and his eloquence. 
We shared many laughs - Noah was funny, witty, awkward and brilliant.
Our paths took us in different directions as he stayed in NYC and I moved out west;  I always hoped to see him at meetings as any encounter with Noah was heartfelt and inspiring.
The world has lost a very special person and I send my true condolences to his family and friends and of course his wife and 2 children.

My whole family had grown close with Dr. Scheinfeld during the past 9 years. I moved back to New York (from San Fran) in 2008 specifically because he researched and treated  Hidradenitis Suppurativa, and no other doctor I’ve ever met — in my 26 yrs with this disease — has known how to properly handle HS.
“Greetings and salutations,” he’d say as he glided into the office with his palm extended out to shake your hand. “How can I help you today?” We’d talk about law school and how much the Bar Exam sucked!
My dad accompanied me to my appointment just this past Friday and Dr. S told us that he also had a Masters in History. “Law School, a Masters in History, finally Med School...my dad just wondered what I was going to end up doing with my life!” he laughed.
My dad put his hand on Dr. S’s shoulder and said, “You’re a very interesting man, Noah,” as two doctors smiled at each other.
We loved Dr. S very very much and I felt so safe and grateful, knowing that he was in my corner. He would call my other doctors — without my even having to ask — to coordinate treatment. No other doctor has ever done that for me and I’ve seen A LOT of doctors. He made sure that his staff was always so professional and actually knew what HS was when I called to make an appointment! 
The world has lost one of its best. His family’s photos and cards from his kids were always in his office, and I remember when the boys were babies. My family and I send tremendous love and condolences to his wife Jackie, kids Max and Thomas, and the rest of this family

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Dr. Scheinfeld's passing - I had just seen him, was seen by him, treated by him - just two weeks ago. I was his patient since 2007. He was a doctor that really cared. He took the time to explain - both what he was doing, and why. He went the extra mile when he thought something was not as it should be, insisting that you one see a specialist in the field that he was concerned you were neglecting.

I was so shocked and saddened when I heard Dr. Scheinfeld’s passing on the phone, while I was trying to reschedule a follow up appointment for my baby. We saw him the Friday before Memorial Day weekend. He is such a knowledgeable and intelligent doctor, that he made my older one’s skin condition so much better after a few weeks treatments a few years ago, for which we are still super grateful. So after we saw several doctors for my younger one, and her condition is not getting better, we knew we needed to see Dr. Scheinfeld. He spent almost an hour with us,  explained what treatments would  help and why.  He answered my questions and concerns very patiently. I can feel his passion about taking care of the patients and suggesting the best treatments. We will carry you in our hearts, Dr. Scheinfeld. You will be sincerely missed. 

I am so saddened by Dr. Scheinfeld’s passing.  I suffered with a painful condition for a very long time until being referred to him.  And while there is no real cure for HS, his research and understanding of the condition has helped me live a substantially better life over the last five years.  I enjoyed our literary discussions and debates over treatment.  Truly a human seeking answers, which is all we should strive to be.

Rest Easy doctor...

Noah was my professor 15 years ago during my residency. We kept in touch sporadically. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of dermatology, read and wrote prolifically, and was always eager to share with us residents. Much of what I know and the physician I have become, I owe to him and for that I will remain forever grateful. May his Neshama have an Aliyah.

It saddens me to hear of Dr. Scheinfeld’s passing. I called him the “miracle doctor” because I came to him in 2017 and he managed to get my condition under control. I had been to several other doctors and their methods were not working and the end result was always surgery.  He explained that I would not benefit from the surgery, explained my condition in great detail & advised me how  we were going to treat this condition.  His bedside manner was a little rough however he was always positive and knowledgeable. He will be truly missed. 

I am still in disbelief that Dr Scheinfeld left us so suddenly and so soon. I last met him on Saturday June 1 .  He was a brilliant doctor who cared a great deal about his patients. Dr. Scheinfeld is concerned deeply about what is going on in the US health care system. We had discussed about writing a paper or a book together, combining his insights in the medical field and my training in economics. He was extremely intelligent and knowledgeable. I learned tremendously from him. He also shared with me his educational experiences and the stories of his great-grandfather, which were an inspiration to me and I shared, and will continue to share, with my family and friends.

I also met another patient of Dr. Scheinfeld on Saturday. That gentleman has a rare disease. He doesn’t have a well-off background and had been ignored by other doctors. Dr. Scheinfeld took him in and gave him 20 thousand dollars worth of samples for free. 

I will forever remember him. 

Noah was a great dad to his sons Max and Thomas.  We were both dads in preschool with our first-born sons, and I saw him at parents' events and outside of school with his sweet wife, Jackie.  This news comes as a total shock.  I just saw Jackie and the boys the other day in the neighborhood, and the boys were so kind and polite.  I cannot imagine what Jackie is going through right now, and I just wanted to send all of my love and strength to her and the boys.  Sincerely,

On my last dermatology visit, Dr. Scheinfeld examined my skin with a special light. I've always prided myself on looking much younger than my age, so I bravely asked him how it looked. "You're skin is age appropriate," he replied. "Really, age appropriate?!" I retorted, with obvious disappointment. To which he responded: "Do you want to be filled with reality or pixie dust?"

It was that kind of directness and wry sense of humor that had me looking forward to my appointments with him. No, he didn't have "bedside manner" in the conventional sense. But he was brilliant and honest and always ready for interesting conversation. (And did I mention, he saved my life by finding a spot on my back that was about to become melanoma.) 

As for his own skin, when I told him he looked young for his age, he shared his secret: "I practically wear a burka at the beach." 

I am shocked and saddened to learn of his death. I'm sure many of his patients will miss him. 

I was a patient of this doctor for several years. I found him to be so intelligent and so professional.   Sometimes he was funny although I don’t think he meant to be .  He helped my eczema incredibly. For years I was mistreated by some of the “best “in New York City with no improvement. Dr. Scheinfeld was able to allow me to live with eczema under control. He was a good person and I’m sure a good father. I will miss him very very much.
