I am just now learning of the passing of Dr Murphy. I am devastated, broken hearted, and I send both mine and my sons deepest condolences to the family and friends of this fine man. Dr. Murphy was the best!! We had the pleasure of having Dr Murphy as my sons pediatrician from birth until 26 when he aged out of Dr Murphy's practice. My son adored this man. I was a single parent, and so many times this wonderful doctor helped us when I didn't have the money to see him. When my son was a teen and struggling with personal guy issues, Dr Murphy gave my son his cell number if he needed to talk. I am so very grateful we had the pleasure of knowing this man. He is one of the finest men I have ever met. I know he is in a better place, and I certainly know he has left this world knowing he made such a difference in this world by helping so very many people! RIP Dr Murphy! You will be missed by many! Know you were loved by soooo very many people! The world is a better place because of you!!! ❤

Woww!! I am just speechless. As i highly recommended Dr Murphy to a neighbor, i found out about his departure. As we all know, no one lasts forever, but i thought he would ,and he will in my family's memories. He was the greatest pediatrician and a phenomenal person. Although i never met his family, i feel like we're connected after the many stories. To the family, i share your loss and pain. 
We will not dwell on it and mourn, but remember his greatness and smile. Dr. Ramon J. Murphy is in a great place and awaits to meet us again. 

Ramon Murphy was in the room when I was born. He was an amazing doctor and a wonderful person. His laugh was absolutely irresistible. I will miss him.

Dr.Ramon Murphy, was one the most amazing pediatrician's of his generation. He was always thorough, brilliant, kind, excellent diagnostician, patient, calm bedside manner.
He will be missed immensely by all who had the honor and privilege to know him.

Ramon was the most memorable attending physician during my pediatric residency at Mt. Sinai from 1984-1987.  His energy, intelligence, integrity, and humor impressed me then and impress me still.  Other attending physicians were astute, but Ramon was the doctor that I wanted to be.  He was my role model and my friend.  His life improved the lives of so many.  I hope that his family can take comfort in the good that he did and also take comfort in the way his memory will be honored by all that try to follow his example.

My Dear Dr. Murphy, I met you 43 years ago with my sick child in Mount Sinai hospital. You were Chief Resident. We became family, you said u would see my children until they were 99, you went on to see my grandchildren. Your kind and gentle care will always remain in my heart. We will miss you so, Ramon.  You cared for our three children; Ashby is applying to medical school because he admired you so.  And yes, he wants to be a pediatrician.  You also cared for us, the parents -- I remember your soothing calm when I called at 2:30 in the morning when someone had the croup.  I will so miss you -- as a doctor and as a person of boundless cheer and wisdom.  You have left an impact on hundreds, both here and abroad.  Godspeed.

Ramon was not only the Pediatrician's Pediatrician, he was also the OBs Pediatrician. We took our oldest to him during residency and could not cut the umbilical cord with him when we moved out to Long Island. Finally did when she fell down the stairs and I realized we had to go local. The only thing he was ever wrong about was that with every visit, he predicted she would hate him the next time. She never did. Such fond memories.

Dr. Murphy was my first clinical preceptor as a first year medical student at MT. Sinai in 1974.  I will always remember him fondly. Dr.Murphy was one of my most memorable mentors during my 
Pediatric residency at Mount Sinai from 1978-81. His dedication, enthusiasm for his patients and joy expressed in his work was infectious. He loved what he did. And my goodness, he loved to talk. From the moment he entered an exam room to the end of the visit he made a parent feel that their child was the only one that mattered. You only needed to peek at his waiting room for proof. 
I am certain that his presence will be missed by his family and patients.
Dr. Murphy left behind a legacy. He was a pediatrician's pediatrician!

As I learned during my own work at Mount Sinai, the Murphy Babies were legendary in the nursery. Ramon Murphy's reputation as a skilled clinician and charismatic  physician were well known and parents and children alike latched on to this exemplary human being. Dr. Murphy became a lifeline for me in my time of need in my family and gave my two boys - Jason and Erick - the gift of enjoying healthcare. He set a high bar of what to expect in a personal physician for them as young adults because he not only cared for them as individuals but excelled with extraordinary clinical expertise! He was the total package! My condolences to his family whom he adored.

Dr. Murphy,
You will live forever in our hearts.  As others have said, our child was the patient but you treated our entire family, helping us be better parents.  Because of you, our son looked forward to seeing the doctor.  Your genuine delight with our child, that you expressed every time you saw him, made you a virtual and valued member of our family.  And somehow, we thought you would always be there for our child... throughout his life.  And you know what?  I'm sure you are, and will be, in some mysterious and wonderful way.

A light has gone out in the pediatric world. Dr. Murphy was our first pediatrician and worked with such kindness, respect, humor and wisdom, and was a great diagnostician as well. I felt so lucky to have him in our lives! To his family and friends - I'm so sorry for your loss.

He once told me he enjoyed reading the NYT obituaries  I hope he somehow knows the profound impact he had on the people responding to his now.

As a kid I looked forward to going to the doctor every year, even if it meant getting shots, because it also meant getting to spend time with Dr. Murphy. He made you feel safe and known and like everything was going to be okay. He was kind and funny but also calmly authoritative and genuine. Even as I was aging out I came back at 20 for a visit, partly because the college health services people couldn't seem to solve a medical issue I knew he probably could, and partly because I just needed to see someone who had known me forever, knew my family, and could make me feel rooted again. How lucky I was to have had him as a constant in my life.

From the moment I met Dr. Murphy in 1982 as he examined my newborn daughter, I was instantly impressed with his calm demeanor and dry sense of humor. Over the course of almost 30 years (my kids were among those who never wanted to leave his practice) he became my hero. The world has lost an extraordinary doctor and human being.

Beloved Dr. Murphy was a wonderful, kind and extraordinary human being. He was compassionate and generous with his time. He took care of our son from 1978 through his adolescence because my son wouldn't leave.  He even made an evening visit on his way home to see my son when he was an infant. We will always be grateful and forever remember him with fond memories.  We loved him and pray that he Rests In Peace.

Dr. Murphy was my doctor throughout my entire childhood, and I credit much of my healthy and safe childhood to him. Growing up, just the name "Dr. Murphy" instantly conjured thoughts of a towering, yet kind authority figure. Obviously as a kid you hate going to the doctor's office, but he always made me feel safe and a little less intimidated. I am 35 now, and just had a physical yesterday and spent much of the time I was there thinking of him and how I wished he was still my doctor. I can only say I was one of many, many people who his life impacted in a positive way. My deepest condolences to his family.

I met Ramon in 1960 at Manhattan College High School in Riverdale and became fast friends instantly.  All of the tributes to his character and kindness on these pages were as true of the boy I knew then as the man he became.  Our paths crossed infrequently in later years which I very much regret.  A truly good man and my thoughts go out to his family and the wide circle of friends and patients whose lives were made a bit better by his presence in their world.

Beloved Dr. Murphy was a wise friend and guide through our children's early lives, from birth into their 20's (in his practice childhood didn't end with adolescence). Always generous with his time, gentle with his patients, reassuring with anxious parents, tolerant with overanxious parents, and always with a smile and a joke for the kids. We all loved him.

Ramon was an extraordinary doctor: compassionate and caring, yes. But above all so knowledgeable and expert. He took symptoms seriously and treated them wisely. He cared for my two daughters and I trusted his judgment beyond measure. He was such a generous spirit and so understood life's ups and downs - we had many moving conversations over the years. What an impact he had on children and families the world over! He will truly be missed.

I met Ramon at a new years eve party about 15 years ago.  About 10 PM
Ramon said he needed to get to the hospital to make some rounds as he
was concerned about several of his patients.  The weather was terrible and getting a cab would be difficult if not impossible.  I offered to drive him and wait downstairs while he did his Ramon Murphy thing.   We got back to the party just in time to see the Ball Drop in Times Square.   What kind of a Dr does this?   We've been friends ever since.

Our friendship has had a significant impact on my life. Many of his friends have become my friends.  His famous Memorial Day Adventures  have been a true joy for my son and myself.  His generous spirit, keen mind and quirky sense of humor truly enriched my life.  So much laughter....... so much fun........ my heart goes out to Lila, David and Jessica.

I am overwhelmed with sadness.I worked with Ramon in the late 70's, early 80s when I was a nurse on the G1 Adolescent Unit on Fifth Avenue.
He also took care of my four childreneven when they reached their early 20s.  He said to me"My practice now includes older adolescents."  That was the beginning of a trend we now see.
I will remember him forever as a warm, 
kind, empathetic man,outstanding physician and mentor.

Ramon was a gifted pediatrician, mentor and friend. His impact on the Sinai community and the many physicians he touched will be lasting.

We lost a legend within the NY Pediatric community.  Ramon was not only my mentor who helped guide my career from the time I met him as a medical student but he cared for our 2 children as well.  I will cherish my memories of him and his tutelage. I'm sure I'll be one voice among many, many others paying tribute to a wonderful man and the best pediatrician a parent could hope for.  His insights, kindness, compassion and devotion are unlikely to be matched.
