March 12, 1957 - January 12, 2025
Robert Alexander Frank Boresta, 67, was born in Teaneck, New Jersey on March 12, 1957, and passed away on January 12, 2025. He resided in both New York City and New Jersey, and he departed after complications following his courageous year-and-a-half battle with stage four pancreatic cancer.
Robert was the youngest of two sons of Giovanni Boresta, born in 1912, and Flora Vagnini Boresta, born in 1923. An alumnus of Bergen Catholic High School in 1975, Robert earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Rutgers College in 1979 and a juris doctor from Fordham Law School in 1984.
Robert was a devoted father to two children and three step-children. Robert’s life was anchored in his family. He married Eleanor Huber in 1989, with whom he raised three children: Cheryl Monika Rebsch Mastykarz, Giselle Marguerite, and Domenic Gian. Later in life, he married Bénédicte Mullier in 2016, embracing her children, Jeremy Gauthier and Emilie Zoe, as his own.
An attorney by training, he practiced securities law. During his four-decade legal career, Robert began as an associate at several renowned firms, made partner in 2006, and later served as a general counsel while in-house. He retired ultimately in 2024.
Robert found joy in physical pursuits, from pick-up basketball games to completing both the Novo Nordisk New Jersey Marathon and the New York City Marathon races in 2017. During his years residing in Ridgewood, New Jersey, he was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Robert’s love of travel took him across Europe with his family, visiting such destinations like Florence, Rome, Paris and the south of France. A lifelong learner, he delighted in sharing podcasts and political debates with his children.
Robert is survived by his wife, Bénédicte, and their beloved puppy Ziggy; his two children, Giselle and Domenic; his step-children Cheryl, Jeremy, and Emilie. He is also survived by his brother John and his wife Colleen, his son-in-law, Justin; and his three grandchildren, Zachary, Joshua and Ethan.
A wake will be held on Wednesday, January 15 and Thursday, January 16 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The funeral service will take place on Friday, January 17 at 1:00 p.m. at Riverside Memorial Chapel, 180 W. 76th St., New York, NY 10023.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Robert’s memory to his son’s fundraiser for Project Purple, a nonprofit supporting research and families affected by pancreatic cancer.
In the words of Yogi Berra, a quote that captures Robert’s endurance and fortitude is, “It ain’t over till it’s over.” His indomitable spirit and love for his family leave a lasting imprint on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
