Scheibe – Robert Henry, passed away on December 9, 2022. He was born in New York City on November 12, 1946 to immigrant parents and was raised in Washington Heights. Bob graduated from The Bronx High School of Science, Hobart College in Geneva, New York, and Georgetown University Law Center, in Washington D.C. Bob was a renowned and highly respected attorney specializing in bankruptcy, complex financing, and financial restructuring. He represented financial institutions for more than 40 years working at several law firms, including White & Case LLP and Zalkin, Rodin & Goodman LLP, a bankruptcy boutique. He retired from Kirkland & Ellis LLP in 2013. He was also a fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy, and was recognized as a leading attorney by numerous publications. Bob took enormous joy in his close and loving family, to whom he was extraordinarily devoted, as well as his many friends. He was a lifelong learner pursuing his interests in classical music, art, and 20th century history with passion and determination. Bob’s innate curiosity and keen mind propelled him through every moment of every day. Bob’s wry sense of humor and intelligence kept us all on our toes. In addition, later in life, he found a love of travel. Bob was an avid reader about wide-ranging subjects and belonged to several book clubs. Coupled with his contagious smile and genuine warmth, this contributed to his being an incredibly engaging conversationalist. Bob made an effort to get to know everyone in his extensive community. He also had a deep commitment to community service and philanthropy, having spent time serving on the boards of Scarsdale Adult School, Scarsdale Historical Society, and Self Help Community Services, among others. Bob married Judith F. Rose in 1970. They were married for nearly 35 years until her death in 2005. He is also predeceased by his parents, Erich and Kaete Scheibe, and his younger brother Peter Scheibe. He is survived by his daughters, Alexandra Scheibe and Gabrielle Scheibe Rabinovitch, son-in-law, Michael Rabinovitch, sister-in-law, Margaret Gelfuso, and granddaughter Julia Clementine Scheibe, who was the light of his life for the last two-and-one-half years. Bob will be remembered as a devoted and exceptional son, husband, father, grandfather, friend, and mentor. He was the warmest, kindest, smartest person to have in your world and was loved by all. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 12 at 11AM at The Riverside, 76th and Amsterdam Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Self Help Community Services (, and Southern Poverty Law Center (
