A rare connoisseur of Chinese jade.. and life.

My heartfelt sympathies to his family. 
Robert Youngman sold me my first boat, gave me a lesson on how to handle it and was kind to me beyond measure. 
He was a true gentleman in his abilites to teach and direct but without creating any angst or nervousness, He instilled confidence.
When I read all the things he achieved in his life I see that this inate gentleness and intelligence have always served him well.
I will miss seeing him on our Newport waterfront. 
May he rest in the well deserved peace of a productive and genuinely true gentleman.

   The loss of a parent is so very difficult. With your Dad's passing will also come a an overflowing  bounty of wonderful childhood memories. Take heart that he is at peace and in a better place and  free from pain.
 Hold onto your memories for they are forever yours to both share and keep within our heart.

It is with profound sadness that I today learned of the passing of my dear friend, client, and fellow enthusiast. We dealt with each others needs and desires in the fieId of Chinese Jade, Ceramics, and Sculpture since 1977, when I first opened a gallery in New York. It was fitting that on the day our New York gallery closed Bob happened to purchase several objects of particular interest. I am honoured several of our objects are illustrated in his 2 most interesting publications. I am forever grateful for Bob's support, interest, and those many hours spent together over the decades handling objects, discovering, and learning. 
I think of you often, from Shanghai, although shocked today to hear you have passed.
Bob,I wiII never forget you.

Barbara, John, Cameron, and Eloise, your father and my friend was a fine man, gentle but strong, pragmatic and yet  humane. I know well how his shrewd and strategic guidance of Middlebury over nearly 2 decades was critical to its educational leadership today. And as co-chair of its $200 million Bicentennial Campaign, he showed the college how to  mobilize her sons and daughters to expect and to realize greatness in all aspects of its mission. Like so many others, I will truly miss him.
