Robinson G. Barranda Sr., age 80, of New York, NY passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2021. He was born on May 8, 1941, in Legaspi City, Bicol, Philippines to Angeles A. Barranda, Sr. and Beatriz Gatbonton.
Robinson grew up in Candaba, Pampanga and was a commerce graduate from Far Eastern University in the Philippines, where he became a certified public accountant. He met his future wife, Elma Trinidad in 1966, while she was studying nursing in the Philippines. At the same time, he took up law before coming to the United States to live in Ohio. He then moved to NY and worked at Manufacturers Hanover Bank while completing his masters at the New York Institute of Technology and becoming a certified public accountant and notary public. He worked for the New York State Banking Department as a state bank examiner for over 25 years until he retired in 2002.
In 1970, he married his long time love, Elma Trinidad, a registered nurse at Mt. Sinai Hospital, and raised three children, Roselgail, Roselyn and Robinson, Jr. He was nominated as one of the 10 Outstanding Fathers of the Year award by the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA), Eastern region. He loved numbers, enjoyed mathematical formulas and probabilities and created his own micro-casino, LVAC Services, which he used to test out his numbers and probabilities in Atlantic City, NJ, Nassau, Bahamas and Bethlehem, PA. He played basketball in the Philippines growing up and was a die-hard New York Knicks fan. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and family all over the U.S. and abroad and loved to sing, dance and eat out at family gatherings.
Preceded in death are his parents and siblings Natividad, Angeles, Jr. and Erlinda Barranda. Those left to cherish his memory are his surviving siblings, Crescensiana Gacusan and Evangeline Roeber, his life-long companion, Elma, his children Gail Rivas, Roselyn Barranda, Robinson Jr., son-in-law Mike Rivas, daughter-in-law Annie Lee, grandchildren Mikaila, Jordan, Roel and Kimaya, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws from the U.S., Canada and the Philippines.
