Ronna (Ronnie) Lewis passed peacefully in her sleep on January 6, 2020. She bravely fought lung cancer for almost 3 years. Ronnie lived a beautiful life that included a very close-knit family that she lived for every day of her life. She had a passion for fitness. As a fitness instructor and Pilates teacher she touched many lives with the gift of fitness. Ronnie also became part of the family at Perlmutter Cancer Center | NYU Langone Health. She promised each of her care givers to give them Pilates sessions when she was able to go back to work. She loved them all and they loved her.
Ronnie’s children were her life! As they grew up, she was very involved with the schools they attended and was the PTA president of Lincoln High School in Lincoln, RI for many years. She was loved by all that she touched there as well. After spending most of her adult life in the New England area and California for 3 years, Ronnie and her husband of 58 years relocated to Manhattan, NY. She started her Pilates business there and at their weekend home in West Haven, CT.
She was born in Portland Maine on May 26, 1937 to Jacob and Sadie (Modes) Merdek. Ronnie relocated to Boston, MA where she met her late husband, Arthur Lewis. They married on August 13, 1961 in Portland, Maine. She leaves behind her three daughters, Stephanie, Laura and Melissa: their husbands and 9 grandchildren. All who had the privilege of knowing her will carry her memory close to their hearts.
