Rosalie Rafferty, 82 passed away on February 15, 2021 in Manhattan. Rosalie was one of 17 children born to Felipe and Yara Jimenez on June 22, 1938. Rosie lived in Manhattan her whole life. After graduating from Julia Richmond High School her first job was at B. Altman's where she worked for many years until she met the love of her life, Richie Rafferty. They were married on September 27, 1958 and embarked on a wonderful life together.
In 1959 Rosie had her first son, Richie Jr. and in 1962 she had another son, Stephen. Rosie's love for her family was immeasurable. When the boys were in the upper grades of Elementary School, Rosie decided she wanted to go back to work. She started working in an office for Dr. Tator and then moved over to Dr. Olichney's office. One day she was told that another Doctor in the practice was looking for someone and she applied for the job. That job was with Dr. Albert Attia whom she worked with for 35 years as an Office Manager before retiring!
Rosie loved to travel and did it every chance she got. She went to San Francisco, New Orleans, Texas, many, many trips with her children and grandchildren to Disney World and Universal Studio's. Also trips to Jamestown and to Colonial Williamsburg, Washington D.C., Cape Cod, Las Vegas, several cruises and of course the many trips to Atlantic City with her family. In the summers there were the trips out to Center Moriches, L.I. and to Keansburg, on the Bay Shore in NJ.
Aside from traveling, there were the many Family Reunions that she looked so forward to. Rosie's other passion was shopping, she could shop with the best of them and knew Macy's on 34th Street better than anyone. She knew where to find every item and knew exactly what floor it would be on. She loved taking her grandchildren to FAO Schwartz and Toy R Us for goodies. She had a heart of gold and loved her grandchildren endlessly. Her generosity was endless. Rosie also loved to dance. That was always a highlight to every Family Reunion. She was an incredibly strong, resilient, independent woman.
As for the Holidays, no one did them like Rosie. Thanksgiving was a huge meal with all the trimmings and afterwards there was always pie and some games around the dining room table. Laughter was always on the menu in the Rafferty house. Christmas in the Rafferty House was something of wonder and awe. Rosie would decorate her home just beautifully complete with a full Dickens Village. Easter was another great Holiday with egg hunts that were another tradition that she passed down to her children and grandchildren. The fun we had watching the little ones hunt for eggs!
Rest In Peace dear Rosie, until we meet again, May God Hold you in the Palm of his Hand.
Rosie is predeceased by her beloved husband Richard and her son Stephen. She is survived by her loving son Richard Jr., her adoring Grandchildren Kristian, Danny, Sean, Eddie and Stephen. Her beloved Great-Grandchildren Aryna, "August Baby", Thomas, Audrey, Kelsey, Katie and Kenzie. Beloved Mother-In-Law of Elaine Rafferty, Kathleen Meehan Rafferty and Patricia Faldetta.
