With profound sadness, we mourn the passing of Sandra S. Young on April 1, 2024 at age 84. Sandy died at home surrounded by her loving family after a long, tough battle with stomach cancer. Sandy will be forever missed by her husband of 64-years, Donald R. Young, her children Steven Young (and wife Amy) and daughter Caryn Young (and husband Ron) and grandson Aaron Weisenberg, as well as by the many other family members and friends who loved her for her warmth, caring, generosity, sense of humor and wisdom.
Ever smart and precocious, Sandy started Queens College at age 16 and NYU School of Law at age 19, where she was one of only five women in her law school class. There she met Don, a third year law student. Sandy knew that she would marry Don after their first date. Indeed they were engaged in three months and married in six months, going on to build a wonderful life and family together. Sandy doted on her children Steven and Caryn and her grandson Aaron. She was fiercely protective of them and took so much pleasure in their accomplishments. Although Sandy never finished law school, she eventually found her calling, obtaining her Masters in Social Work from Fordham University and working as a therapist for children and families. Sandy had an uncanny ability to diagnose and solve problems, and to make the lives of everyone around her better. She will be sorely missed.
Services for Sandy will be held at Riverside Memorial Chapel, at 180 West 76th St, on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 11am (entrance on Amsterdam).
