Three years ago we lost a true gentleman and scholar. He was a man who stood by you through thick and thin after your earned his trust. He was an integral part in   the success of my business with his support. His friendship is sorely missed. 

Today is the last day I will be working on behalf of SFCC. The first thing/one I thought of was you. You were my mentor, my friend and my boss for 20 years. You taught me so much.....to be tough but fair.  Thank you for being you.  I will never forget......

Steve was such a great friend and mentor. He freely offered his advice and support over the years. He was an icon, so bright,  knowledgeable and always had a fresh perspective. I will sorely miss him, as will so many of us.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family as you mourn such a profound man.

Steve Licht was a giant in the field of workers’ compensation. He was a personal friend and mentor to me over the decades. I had the honor to succeed Steve as a director of the NY State insurance Fund.  The first thing I did in my new job was to call Steve at the Special Fund, ostensibly to seek  his advise but really to ask for his blessing. Predictably, I received both. Steve was always generous with his time anytime  anyone reached out to him seeking his wise counsel and to tap into his vast experience and knowledge. I affectionately called him my “rabbi.” We will all greatly miss him.  Sincere condolences to Diana and family. Rest In Peace, Steve.



Steven was  a model of dignity and class, it was an honor to have met him.

I was always in early, and I would see Steve come in with his Zaro's bag with pastries. I would ask how he was doing and no matter what, he would never complain. He always seemed more concerned with how you were, than himself. He would go to the kitchen to get his coffee. If there wasn't any, I would make it and take it to him. Which was nice, because he would ask me to sit down, and he would ask how I was, or I would ask him. He would offer me a pastry, and I would tell him that, if he keeps offering me pastries all the time, I would gain weight. He was about enjoying life and forgetting about the negative. So I would take the pastry. He always bought the best stuff anyway. I used to bake a lot, and I knew he loved sweets, so Maria always said never forget Mr. Licht, he loves sweets. It was a pleasure sharing my baked goods with him, and everyone else. He really liked them. We had many conversations, and he would give me good advice, and made sure I understood what he was saying. He just wanted to make sure I felt better. He was considerate, kind, honest and tough. But, tough in a caring way. He used to tell me not to sweat the little things. I really enjoyed seeing him with his grand children, when they worked in the summer. He would glow from happiness having them around the office. The grand kids loved their grand father so much, it showed. They are wonderful loving children, which I have the pleasure of knowing. 
Thank you Mr. Licht, it was a pleasure knowing you, thank you for everything. I will never forget you.  Just writing all this brings tears to my eyes.  
My condolences to the family. May all the wonderful memories carry you through this very difficult time.  

I met Steve through his colleague and my good friend Ken Theobalds nearly 25 years ago. I could see right away he was a gregarious soul and a person of solid character. Steve gave me a great tidbit of personal advice that helped me get through a rough period, for which I was very grateful. God bless his soul.

My deepest sympathy, thoughts , and prayers to Steven's family. I was blessed to be able to stay connected with Steven through the years at happy times - Jeremy's Bar Mitzvah, Jason's Wedding. I am deeply saddened to hear of Steven's passing and illness. May your hearts be filled with many cherished memories.

 Mr. Licht, I have known you since i was a little girl. You gave me my first job at the age of 18. I have worked for you for 14 years. I am forever grateful for my time at special funds. While working at the front desk, i always made sure you had your phone, keys and wallet before you left the office. You were an extraordinary person.  You were a generous person and loved by so many.  You were a loving father, grandfather and friend. You were more then my employer, you were my family. Rest in peace Mr. Licht. You will be missed.

Steve will always be a friend and father figure to me. Over 20 years his encouragement has always meant the world to me.  He toughness made me a better more resilient person.  Thank you Steve for always making me feel special. You will be forever in my heart and memories. I look back and smile.

I am very sorry to hear of Mr. Licht's passing.  My deepest sympathy   to Diana and family.  Siddhartha often spoke fondly of him.   

Steve was my mentor and friend for 20 years at the State Insurance Fund from 1973 to 1993. He then helped me over the years as a big brother would, whenever I needed support and advice . I have fond memories of Steve and was saddened to hear of his passing.  It has been 10 years since I worked for him and I still quote him on a regular basis.  He was a loving husband an proud father.  My deepest condolences to his family. 

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Licht.  He was my boss at Special Funds from the time I started in 2010 until it's closure at the end of 2018.  He was always very nice to me and was a great CEO.  One of the things that stand out to me was his generosity.  He would always have a coffee and pastry for breakfast in the mornings and when his usual runner was out, I would get his coffee.  He would always purchase a few extra pastries to give to whoever got him coffee that day.  He was a kindhearted man.  My thoughts are with his wife and children, extended family, and friends.
