Thomas F. McEvily, Jr. of New York, NY died on September 15, 2015 at the age of 90. Born in New York City to Thomas F. and Ellen R. (McDonnell) McEvily, he is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Mary Ellen Foster McEvily, by his children, Thomas F. III (Mary), Richard P. (Michele), Ellie Murphy (Michael), Patrick (Ann), Mary McMillan (Keith) and Michael (Ellen), by his grandchildren, Christopher (Maureen), Peter (Sarah), Kathleen and Alison McEvily, Kyle (Jessica), Conor and Caitlin McEvily and Erin (Andrew) McArdle, Thomas Murphy, Katie, Patrick and Claire McEvily, Lizzie, Neil and Will McMillan and Megan, Thomas and Cara McEvily and by his great grandchildren, Daniel, Sean, Ryan, Alexandra, Kevin and Trevor. He was predeceased by his first wife, Catherine Shea McEvily, and by his daughter, Claire Keating McEvily. Tom graduated from Fordham Prep (’43), the United States Merchant Marine Academy (’45) and the University of Notre Dame (’50) and he was a proud and loyal alumnus of each school. He also served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He was the President for many years of Keevily Spero Whitelaw, Inc. a successful insurance brokerage now located in Harrison, NY - which was founded by his father, greatly expanded by him and now managed by several of his children and grandchildren. However, what his family would like him to be most remembered for was that he was a man of great Catholic faith and that, especially in his retirement, he strongly lived that faith on a daily basis by serving his fellow man – as a lay member of the Archdiocese of New York’s Inter-Parish Finance Committee, as the President and long-time member of the Board of Directors of Abbott House, as a Eucharistic Minister for cancer patients at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and, until most recently, as the leader of the Saturday Morning Homeless Breakfast Program for over 20 years at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. Tom was a Knight of Malta and also served on the Board of Trustees of Fordham Prep and The Ursuline School. His lifelong pursuit of learning was found in his love of reading and in speaking French. He was an avid tennis player and sailor and vocal fan of Notre Dame Football and the NY Yankees. Truly a life well-lived. The wake hours will be on Friday, September 18, 2015 from 3 – 5 and 7 – 9 pm at the Chas. Peter Nagel Funeral home, 352 East 87th Street, New York, NY 10128. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ignatius Loyola Church, 980 Park Avenue at 84th Street in New York City at 9:30 am on Saturday, September 19, 2015. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY. Rather than flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to either Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 230 East 90th Street, New York, NY 10128 (Memo – Saturday Morning Breakfast Program), or to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Chaplaincy, MSK Development Office, Attn: Carol A. Blumenfeld, 633 3rd Ave., 28th Floor, NY, NY 10017.
