Elaine Anita Nieves

Passed quickly and peacefully the morning of February 23, 2023 after a stroke.

A caring mother, loving wife, dedicated grandmother. Elaine loved chocolates, visits to the beach with her family, coffee (when she could have it), visits with her friends, and light shopping on the weekends. She was our rock, our compassion, and possibly our only sense of humor. She will missed wholeheartedly.

Elaine is preceded in her death by her parents and brother Raymond. She is survived by her husband, Harry; her daughters Alicia, Elizabeth and Sandee; her sister, Linda; and grandchildren, Jayden and Sofia.

Elaine grew up in Pacoima, CA and attended Polytechnic High School (class of 1966). She graduated from California State University of Northridge with a B.A. in Sociology. Elaine went on to marry Harry Nieves. They had daughters, and remained married for 50 years.

Elaine was passionate about teaching. She worked as an educator for over 30 years. She started as a special education teaching assistant at her alma mater, Polytechnic High School. Then later taught at Sylvan Park Elementary, and Haddon Elementary, shaping hundreds of young minds over the years.

In retirement, she enjoyed life as a docent at Descanso Gardens, where she could name countless plants while guiding people across the grounds. She also was an active grandmother and very close with her youngest grandchild, Sofia.

Funeral services will be held March 29, 2023 at 10am at Eternal Valley Memorial Park in Newhall, CA
