Genoa Louvenia Cobo, age 85, of Santa Clarita, California passed away peacefully at her home after a courageous battle with cancer, on Thursday, September 23, 2021. Genoa was born April 22, 1936 the 4th of 7 children born to Porter and Laura Moss. She was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. She is survived by her children Mickie Schuerger (Reinhardt) and Debbie Harding (Mark) and 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Her husband of 55 years Francis L. Cobo (Pete) passed in 2008. She is also survived by her brothers Porter and James (Brenda) Moss, Annette Whitaker, Nell (Harvey) Smart, and many nieces and nephews. Her oldest sister had a child Mark who was raised with the family as a 9th sibling. They called their family members the "In-laws & Out-laws." She is preceded in death by her sisters Helen and Idell, and brother Jared.
Genoa married Pete in 1952 and moved to Sunnyside Utah to live with her father-in-law as her husband finished up his service in the Navy. In 1953 he returned to Utah for the birth of their first child Mickie. They moved their family in September 1954 to Venice California to start a new life together as Pete started his career in the aerospace industry. In 1956 they welcomed their second daughter Debbie into their family. In 1966 they moved to Santa Monica California and lived there until 1977 when they moved to Stanton and eventually Seal Beach until they retired. Pete and Genoa both retired from Boeing Aircraft and moved to Santa Clarita to build their dream home together.
Genoa was a stay at home mom until 1966 when she started working at Douglas Aircraft. She went to Willis Business College to train as a secretary. She promoted herself to work as an Executive Secretary and was extremely proud of her accomplishments.
Genoa was lovingly referred to as "gg" by her family, she loved to spend time with her family and friends. Everyone who met her loved her. She had so many friends in the community she grew to love, Santa Clarita. Some of her hobbies included gardening, house cleaning, and keeping the family in jackets.
She was well known for her love of cooking, watching Hallmark movies, playing cards with her long-time friends, and a day trip to a casino. She and Pete loved to travel on cruise ships and went to Alaska and Mexico and took a riverboat cruise on the Mississippi River.
She loved entertaining her family and of course her addictive chocolate sheet cake kept us asking for more. GG had a keen sense of humor and was never without a story and keep her audience captive, because you never knew where she would go with it. She was a woman with drive and determination but mostly love. We were all very impressed when she learned how to text on her iPhone and really knocked our socks off when she joined social media. She loved to see how the kids were doing and what everyone was up to. She will be very missed by all who loved her.
A funeral service for Genoa will be held Friday, October 29, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Eternal Valley Memorial Park Mortuary, 23287 North Sierra Hwy, Newhall, CA 91321. In lieu of flowers you may send a donation to: The American Cancer Society: cancer.org.
