Dear Echeverria Family,
It has been one year since you lost your beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother. I too share in your loss, as Gilberto will always be with me in mind and spirit. Each day I pray for his soul, knowing that he is with the Lord our God, and I hope that someday I will see him again in Heaven.  May God continue to bless and keep you in his care.  Thank you again for allowing me to call each of you my dear friends.

Our uncle was an incredible man, it seemed he always had the right words to say for any occasion. I know he was extremely proud of his family and always made us feel loved, accepted, and welcomed into his home. It is an aching physical loss not only for those that knew him, but for those that never had the privilege to be in his presence. This isn’t goodbye, for I know he is still with us all. May he be at peace, and rest with all of our love. 

My dad was great, and I miss him terribly. I love the time that I spent with dad, whether it be watching wrestling, a football game, or just sitting in the living room hearing him yell at Alexa. There are always lessons to be had. When he told stories, he captivated a room. My father was, simply put, the most extraordinary man I ever knew. He was an incredible husband and incredible father to us kids, an astonishing grandfather, an excellent teacher, and a great friend. He taught me so many life lessons. Sadly, he is gone, but I know he's not in pain. I miss you, dad. I love you dad. You will forever be my hero God loves you and now you're home. I hope one day I can be half as a man as you are so I can see you someday.

My father-in-law was one of the nicest most humble people you could ever meet. I am surely going to miss him. 

My dear friend, I will miss you so much. Although I did not get to  see you again personally in a long, long time, we laughed so much during those telephone calls, just remembering our younger years. I will always treasure our friendship.  Until we meet again, rest in peace my friend.

I had the pleasure of meeting & becoming a close friend of Gilberto a little over 20 years ago.  I was introduced to Gilberto by my close friend Chris Booker, while working together with Chris for the Los Angeles Police Department. Chris had been promoted & I became the new officer in charge of patrolling Gilberto’s neighborhood.  Gilberto became an instrumental partner in helping me understand the needs of his neighborhood. He built relationships with many business owners and residents with the goal of improving his community. Gilberto was someone I could rely on to volunteer for committees. I trusted his advice and soon began to spend time conversing with him about his life. Our conversations developed into a close friendship. One of the first things I learned about Gilberto as a friend was his devotion and love for his family. He cared deeply for his wife and was very proud of being a father to his two sons. I will always remember Gilberto as a man of great character who enjoyed good conversations and laughs. Gilberto made a positive impact on his community and the people he met.

It was the Spring of 1995, I was newly appointed as a Senior Lead Officer with the Los Angeles Police Department, Van Nuys Division, assigned to the area of Woodman Ave and Sherman Way. I was tasked with forming partnerships with the area residents through the Department's Community Policing program. I parked my police vehicle and began walking a footbeat in the area, where I was greeted by a friendly, outgoing, and gregarious gentleman, that welcomed me and told me of the issues that were affecting the area. I told him that I would be concentrating on many of the issues he raised, and at that very moment, our friendship began. In the subsequent years and many community meetings and events, Gilberto stood with me, providing me with support, encouragement, and a place at his home where I could always go and feel welcomed and appreciated for my efforts, in attempting to make the area safe and free of crime, for all the residents of the neighborhood. Hofe, Gilberto Jr., and Carlos, thank you for sharing your husband and father with me. Thank you for allowing me into your home when I sought just a few minutes of refuge from the rigors of being a Los Angeles Police  Officers, Thank you for the many years of friendship and kindness. I will never forget you Gilberto. My prayers and thoughts are with the family at this very difficult time. Rest easy my friend, until we meet again.
