

Irene Rachel George, affectionately known as "Mom," was born on September 16, 1929, in Houston, Texas, to James and Elsie Brannon. As the eldest of three children, she embraced her role as a loving and devoted family member. Irene gave her life to God at a young age and attended Phyllis Wheatley High School.
She married Anthony George, known as "Buster," and together they had two daughters, Barbara Diane Clark and Antoinette Marie Turner.
Throughout her life, Irene was known for her hard work and dedication. She worked at Lockheed Aircraft and the Los Angeles School District, and in 1970, she went back to school and proudly earned her GED. A lifelong learner, she went on to become a Notary Public in California.
Irene was a loving and supportive mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was always there for her family, whether it was caring for sick relatives, offering support in times of grief, or making her famous gumbo to share with loved ones and neighbors in the community. Her love for family and friends was evident in everything she did. She enjoyed listening to blues, Bobbi Blue Bland was her favorite artist.
In addition to her nurturing spirit, Irene had many talents. She was an avid gardener, often found tending to her yard at 6 a.m. in the morning. She was a remarkable seamstress and a phenomenal cook, known for her delicious gumbo.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers James and Lee Brannon, granddaughter Charlene, two nieces, and many beloved aunts, uncles, and friends.
She leaves behind her two daughters, Barbara Diane Clark and Antoinette Marie Turner; two sons-in-law; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Irene’s legacy of love, strength, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
