Janie as born in Waurika, Oklahoma, on Tuesday, October 1, 1918, to James Allen Hill, and evangelist and farmer, and his wife Megan "Maggie" Frances Stillwell Hill. The only daughter among six children of the marriage. Janie both did her farm chores and assisted her mother with household chores and cooking. Baby brother Buddy died at 18 months of age and was buried in Waurika.
When the Great Depression and the dustbowl ruined their farm, mother Maggie and her remaining five children moved to California, their home for most of their lives. Brother Freddie Joe was killed by an auto while delivering newspapers on his bicycle. He was buried next to Buddy in Waurika.
While visiting her half-sister Lola Hill Neal, Janie was introduced to Lola's nephew Larry Neal. This tall, gentle cabinetmaker captured her heart and they were married on September 18, 1939. When Larry ascended to haven in 2003, they had been married for more than 63 years.
Janie and Larry raised their two daughters, Gloria and Nancy in San Fernando, California. After they retired, they moved to Placerville, California, and later to Colorado Springs, Colorado. Beloved daughter Nancy joined her father in 2007. And now loving daughter, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-aunt, great-grandmother and "Nana" has ascended to glory.
