Marco Cerna was born March 9, 1953 in Managua, Nicaragua. He worked as a teacher, which was a product of the long line of schools that he attended. At Cal State Los Angeles, Marco received his BA in Education and his Adult Teaching Credential. He attended Cal State San Francisco and earned a second BA in Spanish. He also received his MBA at Pepperdine University and then went on to receive his PhD at La Verne University. He loved to travel the world and knowing more than 5 different languages came in handy during his travels. Marco held a variety of interesting jobs, once he was even a professor in China teaching MBA courses to Chinese nationals. He generously volunteered with Operation Santa, The Crisis Response Team of Los Angeles, Toastmasters, Suicide Hotline, mensa and Doctors without Borders.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Cerna of Santa Clarita, CA; his daughter, Erica Cerna of Amarillo, TX; and his stepsons, Shawn Siebe of Phoenix, AZ, Ike Pearson of San Dimas, CA and Tony Pearson of San Dimas, CA; his sisters, Gladys M Cerna of Van Nuys, CA and Lucretia (Ketch) Cerna of Atwater Village, CA. Marco was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys D. Cerna and his father, J Antonio Cerna.
A funeral service will be held Friday, June 20, 2014 at 9:30am at Eternal Valley Memorial Park in Newhall, California. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Cancer Support Community of Pasadena at 200 E Del Mar Blvd, Suite 118, Pasadena CA 91105. www.cscpasadena.org.
