

Marvin Braxton Futrell, age 94, formerly of Santa Clarita, California passed away February 24, 2026, in Sandy, Utah. Born September 26, 1931, in Gilmer, Texas, he was the youngest son of the late James Braxton and Mamie Adeline Futrell.
Marvin was born in a home with no electricity, running water, in-door plumbing, and heat other than a wood burning pot belly stove. When World War II began, Marvin’s parents moved around to many different places to find work. Marvin ended up in Glendale, California where he met the love of his life, Lois Compton in High School. From 1951 to 1952 Marvin attended and graduated from Glendale Jr. College. In 1952, the Korean War was in full swing, so instead of being drafted, Marvin enlisted into the U.S. Air Force. He served 4 years in the Air Force with 11 months being in Korea receiving many awards for his service with an Honorable Discharge in June 1960. Between military training and being shipped to Korea, Marvin and Lois were married in June of 1953.
In 1962, Marvin graduated from the School of Architecture from USC and settled in Burbank, California with Lois Futrell. There they started to build their beautiful life together along with their 3 oldest children with 2 more children to come later. Marvin was an active member in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He held many positions in his church and served in the Bishopric many times. He was very proud of his service and watching his family grow. In 1989 Marvin and Lois left Burbank, to move to their new home in Santa Clarita Valley. There, they made many wonderful memories together and built forever friendships adding to the ones from Burbank and now from Santa Clarita.
Marvin loved being an architect. He was very proud of being a draftsman and was very good at it. He worked for Eugene Conroy for 17 years and Robbins-Browns for 26 years. Marvin’s ultimate joy was to vacation at the family cabin in the High Sierra Mountains, where he could be found either upgrading the cabin, fishing, hiking, or taking long walks with his love, Lois. He loved doing puzzles, the harder the better and building model airplanes. At one point he had over 400 airplanes hanging in his garage which was written about in the Signal Newspaper.
Marvin B. Futrell is survived by his 5 children: Ann (Matt) Stevens, Doug (Sid) Futrell, Joan (Tony) Schmidt, Karen (Paul) Tervort, and Greg (Tamra) Futrell. Further survived by 19 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, his sister-in-law Tollis Zuber, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lois M Futrell, his brother and sister-in-law Melvin and Roberta Futrell, his father and mother, and his in-laws Max and Irene Compton.
Funeral Services will be held on April 11, 2026, at 11:00am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 27827 Skycrest Cir Drive Valencia, California 91354.
