

Richard Thomas Cooper joined his beloved Norma Mae in Heaven on November 9, 2017. Richard was born in Columbus Ohio on November 24, 1930 to Howard Guy and Mary Opal Cooper. He joined the family with an older step brother, Theodore Cooper. Richard worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad beginning at the age of 17. He met and married Norma in December 1950. He was drafted in 1951 and served in the Army in the Korean Conflict from 1951-1953. Upon returning to the states in 1953, Richard began working in construction. He and Norma moved from Columbus to California in 1961 looking for the promise of warmer weather and more job opportunities and of course, golf courses open and playable 12 months out of the year. He was an avid golfer and loved to play cards. Richard was an amazing father to Mary and Cheryl. He enjoyed time with his three grandchildren, Justin, Jason and Jessica. He began working for the City of Los Angeles as a Building and Safety Inspector. He took great pride in his work and that his work supported his family and their needs. Richard and Norma were married 66 years upon Norma's passing in December 2016. They lived a life that was blessed by God. Their marriage was an example of God's hope, enduring love and the display of respect and loyalty. There was never a harsh word spoken between them. Richard was a wonderful role model to all - Helpful, kind, gentle, non judgemental and loving. Richard was a member of many Masonic organizations. His service included but was not limited to: Commander of Los Angeles Commandery #9, Right Eminent Grand Commander of the State of California as well as being an active member of Old West Lodge in Newhall. He received the Hiram award for 50 years of service in the Masonic orders. He was as active participant in several lodges and enjoyed the brotherhood and friendships that he developed over the years.
