I worked with Dick in the grocery business a long time ago and I always thought he was a very kind and generous man. I know he was a tremendous blessing to his family and knew how to enjoy life. What a wonderful legacy! He made a difference in peoples' lives.

Like my sister Beth, I have wonderful memories of the visits Dick made to our family while he was stationed at Fort Knox.  EVERYONE in the family was so excited to see him.  He spent special time with each of us and then spent the evenings in long conversations with my dad until he had to go back to camp.  He gave me one of the gold stick pins from his uniform.  I think perhaps I had a crush on him and his beautiful blue eyes.

I never knew Richard as Richard to me and my kids he was grandpa he was such a kind sweet loving man and will be missed we luv ya grampa and hope u enjoy ur peace

I love you so much Grandpa!! I will miss you so much!!! I will always remember the cruise you  took me on! Great memories!  You're a great Man and everyone that meets you knows that and loves you. THANK YOU for everything you taught and done for me! I love you so much and will tell my children all about you Grandpa and let them know what a great Grandpa you were. I miss you!!!

My dad loved his family, and his friends. Everyone who knew him, loved him as well. To some of us, he was Dad, to others he was Grandpa, Grandpapa, Richard, Rich, and there were many that knew him as Dick. No matter who he was to you, he was a great man.

My dad would love to tell the stories and have a conversation with you. He would talk about all sorts of topics.  but most were of his family, kids, grandkids and great grandkids, his childhood, his vacations, and travels. We all knew, when we would stop by to visit, it wasn't going to be a quick in and out. 

My Dad was a proud man. He always provided for his family. For many years when I was a kid, he would eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch at work, ensuring we would have food on the table.  

My Dad made a good living as a butcher.  He cut meat in many stores around LA. shopping bag, fasios, vons, ralphs, albertsons. He knew alot of people. 

You got to love My Dad. He was old school. When the first ATMs came around, early 80's.  He had nothing to do with them.  He wanted to get cash from a human teller at the bank. Same with direct deposit. He wanted that paycheck in his hand. He would rather wait for the bank to open, go inside, wait in line to cash that check.  Pushing a bunch of buttons on a machine wasn't him. 

My Dad would much rather have a cup of regular coffee than one of them fancy starbucks. He would rather read a book or newspaper than fiddle with an ipad or kindle.  He enjoyed his cigarettes too. He would not even consider quitting. 

My Dad had a sweet tooth.  He loved his chocolate covered cherries, His fudge, he loved lots of cream and sugar in his coffee. We would joke around and ask him if he wanted a sprinkle of coffee in his cup of cream and sugar.

My Dad loved family vacations.  seaworld, animalpark, disneyland.  he loved the cruises, solvang, and laughlen. He wanted to travel more after He retired. sadly that did not happen. Our future family vacations will not be the same without him. 

Halloween may of been his most favorite holiday. He would talk about what new decorations he got each year. Then He would decorate the yard and enjoy the kids and neighbors coming by. 

Just like most dads, He taught me to play baseball, drive a stick shift car, and play chess... Well, at least I'm good at chess. He also taught us right and wrong, instilled positive values in out lives. gave us the foundation of who we are today.  

My Dad would of been turning 80 soon. We were looking forward to his birthday celebration. but now, we mourn his passing.   

My Dad will be missed by many but not forgotten.

I have such fond memories of my neighbor, friend, and patriarch of this neighborhood.  How I loved (and will miss) our 29 years of conversations and those blue eyes!!  It was always neat to see his sense of family and his kind heart.  Halloween and 4th of July will never be the same up here.  I'll miss him always.  May he rest in peace right near my mom. Mr. There,  the dad of the neighborhood,  as check up on us and watching us run through the neighborhood. You are dearly missed thank you for all you did for me and my family.

We all love you so much Dad.  Heaven sure is lucky to have you.  Thank you for being such an amazing grandpa to my kids.  They adore you.  My Sundays just won't be the same without you.

I knew Dick only as a dashing young soldier stationed at Fort Knox near my home in Louisville, Kentucky. He was a relative of my father and spent some weekends visiting our family. As an early teen, I found his blue eyes and and his youthful charm irresistible.  Unlike others in my family, I did not have the opportunity to know him in later years, but I will always remember the golden young soldier I admired.
