Shelley was born October 6, 1957 to Leo Morgan and Cliftona Bonnie Warner in Culver City, California, the last of three children. She attended Birmingham Junior and Senior High School, where she was active on the cheer squad and swim team.
She graduated Vocational Nursing School of California and became an LVN, fulfilling a dream she had for many years. Her nursing skills have served her well, not only as a mother, but also as the "go to" medical resource in her family. She worked in a number of hospitals in many different departments, but her favorite job was in the office of a pediatrician in Canyon Country, where she worked for a many years. She was always attracted to children and the combination of applying her medical skills to children made her very happy.
Shelley married her husband Scott in the Los Angeles Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on February 10, 1979. Their first girl, Kristina Joy, was born in September 1980, while they were living in Torrance. Shelley was "born to be a mother" and had looked forward to this moment all of her life. She devoted all of her energies to nurturing and teaching her family. Katie Diane was born in February 1984 in Bountiful, Utah. She was 6 weeks premature and truly a miracle baby. Their third daughter Kelsey Lee came in July 1987, while they were living in the Bay Area. She longed for more children, but was told that her health would be seriously jeopardized. Shelley was most happy when she was home with her girls. She insisted that in addition to schoolwork, there would be piano lessons. Their home was blessed with the gift of music, which has blessed each of their lives in many ways.
Shelley served faithfully in her Church in various callings in the Primary, Young Women and Relief Society organizations. Her favorite callings were her recent class of 6-and 7-year olds and the opportunity to serve in the Los Angeles temple. She loved to serve in the temple and her weeks would literally revolve around Wednesdays.
She always knew that her most important calling was in her home. She was most "alive" when they would spend time together and that was particularly the case around the Holidays. Each one brought her joy, as she would look for chances to give and to transform her home into a wonderland.
Shelley's life has been filled with physical challenges and during the last 12 years there were not too many days in which she did not suffer with pain. Despite the inconvenience, however, she managed to enjoy her favorite things, which included anything to do with water, annual getaways with her husband, fulfilling a long held dream to spend a week in Paris, planning three amazing weddings, and being a grandmother. Those special children are the absolute love of her life.
She is survived by her father, brother and sister, her husband, their three daughters, three adorable grandchildren, and one that will be coming in November.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 19513 Drycliff Street, Santa Clarita, CA 91351. A viewing will be held from 9:30 -10:30 a.m.
