Stephen John Chernack was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 10, 1935 and passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, at the age of 90. He is preceded in death by his parents Marion and Harriet Chernack, and his older brother Marty. Stephen is survived by his loving wife Cynthia and his children, Amie, Laura, Daniel (wife Jennifer), Laurissa, Michelle (husband Shawn), Sara Jane (husband Andres); his 18 grandchildren, Dylan, Sierra, Crystal, Nicolas, Elezabeth, Cindy, Zachary, Jared, Emma, Charlotte, Abby Jane, Chloe, Cristian, Cruz, Zahin, Jai, Emma, and Ava; and yes, there’s more. . . and his 11 great grand-children.
Our family was so blessed to have had Steve in our lives. His strength wasn't found in grand gestures, but in the quiet, consistent way he showed up for the people he loved. Steve was always the first to arrive with his toolbox in hand, ready to tackle any project for his friends or family. He loved good wine, good books, and most importantly, a really good thrift store find. He was a wonderful husband, father, papa, and friend, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
