David West

Born February 2, 1991 in Catawba County, he was the son of Peter Lawrence West and Tammy Huffman West and was a student at Guilford Technical College in Greensboro.

David was a 2009 graduate of Newton Conover High School, where he was a letterman on the track and swim teams, and was currently serving in the United States Marine Corps in Communications Company CLR 45 Radio Platoon in Greensboro. David entered the Marine Corps in 2010 and graduated in the top 10 of his class in USMC Boot Camp and was the Honor Graduate (#1 in his class) in combat training. His sergeant said David was a Marine you could always count on. David was an avid hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman and was very witty and enjoyed making people laugh.

Left to cherish his memory, are his parents, Peter Lawrence West and Tammy Huffman West, of Newton; his sister, Chelsea Marie West, of Newton, NC; paternal grandfather, Tom West and wife, Maria of Chester, SC; paternal grandmother, Susan West, of Newton, NC; maternal grandparents, L. David and Diane Huffman, of Newton, NC; aunts and uncles, Dawn Wagstaff, of Montgomery, AL, Dana Greene and David Hood of Newton, NC, Tina and Lynn Starnes, of Conover, NC, Eva West, of Dallas, NC, Alan Dupas, of Chester, SC, Eli and Carissa West, of Elberton, GA; numerous great aunts and uncles, and cousins whom he loved dearly; and girlfriend, Chandler Morris, of Winston-Salem, NC.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Conover, with Rev. Dr. Ed Yount and Rev. Josh Kappes officiating. A graveside service, with full military honors, will follow at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory.

Pallbearers will be members of his Marine Corps Company.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 24, 2014 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home in Newton.
