

Joe was born May 2, 1942 in Catawba County to the late Russell C. Sigmon and Floy Poovey Sigmon.
Joe was a retired upholsterer. He was an active member of New Life Baptist Fellowship Church. He received Christ as his Savior in 2004 and has faithfully served in the cleaning and maintaining of church property, as well as participating in local mission efforts.
Joe dedicated his life to being a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He taught those around him the importance of hard work by the example he set and was a man with a gentle heart that would give and bless others any time he could.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Jimmy Allen Sigmon, Glenn Russell Sigmon, and Bob Lee Poovey.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Judy Sigmon; sons, Joe Sigmon Jr. of Hickory, and R. Lane Sigmon and wife, Sonya, of Midwest City, OK; daughter, Charity Sherrill and husband, Terry, of Claremont; grandchildren, J. David Sigmon and wife, Katlyn, Krysta Sigmon, Noah Sigmon, and Ciarra Parker; sisters, Alice Spencer of Conover and Ruth Lail of Newton; sister-in-law Janice Sigmon of Claremont; and many nieces and nephews.
A Service of Remembrance will be held Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home in Newton. Rev. Jeff Kautz and Rev. Charles Worley will officiate. Burial to follow at Bethel Lutheran Church.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 to 12:45 p.m.
