Lester Oda Roof Jr.

Lester was born July 25, 1931 in Lexington Co., SC to the late Lester Oda Roof, Sr. and Virgie Eula Sandel Roof.

He graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College in 1953 and Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, SC in 1956. Following graduation, Lester served as Minister to Trinity Lutheran Church in Sanford, NC, Faith Lutheran Church in Conover, NC, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Salisbury, NC, and St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Maiden, NC. Lester was a member of the Maiden Lions Club and a former member of the Conover Civitan Club.

Lester is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Doris Lackey Roof, of the home; daughters, Carol Eanes and husband, Tom of Wilmington, NC, Becky Gladden, and husband, Jon of Vale, NC; brother, Lowell Roof of Lexington, NC; sister, Betty Roof of Salisbury, NC; grandchildren, Drew and Matt Eanes of Wilmington, NC, Sarah Gladden of Newton, NC and fiancé Tyler Grove of Hickory, NC, Caroline Bost and husband, Joe of Belmont, NC, and Meredith Gladden of Vale, NC.

A Graveside Service will be held Friday, December 27, 2013 at 1:00 p.m., at St. Luke Cemetery in Kings Mountain, NC with Rev. Ted Goins officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, December 27, 2013 at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Service of Remembrance will be held Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Conover, NC with Rev. Dennis Hacker, Rev. Anna Merritt, and Bishop Leonard Bolick officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Drew Eanes, Matt Eanes, Joe Bost, Tyler Grove, Michael Roof and Thad Lutz. Both current and retired Ministers and members of the Maiden Lions Club will serve as honorary pallbearers.
