

Born February 1, 1922, in Iredell County, she was the daughter of the late Carl W. Sherrill and Ora Mayhew Sherrill.
Martha was a lifetime member of New Jerusalem Lutheran Church and served over 60 years in the church choir. She was one of the founders of the Killian’s Home Demonstration Club and was well known for her canned pickles and homemade peanut brittle that she donated to the senior friend’s fundraisers/auctions.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Harold Lutz; daughter, Nancy Flo Lutz; brother, Rudd Sherrill; sisters, Mildred Fox, Earlene Rader and Otis Daniels.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, George Harold Lutz, Jr. and wife, Sherry of Newton, Robert Lutz and wife, Linda of Newton, John Lutz and wife, Connie of Newton; grandchildren, Brian Lutz and wife, Robin, Pete Lutz and wife, Tammy, Andrea Young and husband, Billy, Adrian Lutz and wife, Kirsten, Salem Shannon and husband, Justin, Meredith Lutz; great grandchildren, Dalton Lutz, Dylan Lutz, Zoe Lutz, Tori Lutz, Alex Hayman, Cody Lutz, and Lydia Lutz.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 14, 2014 at New Jerusalem Lutheran Church with Rev. Randall Cauble officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Glenn Barger, Rodney Sherrill, Pete Rader, Buddy Rader, Bill Fox and Baine Fox, Jr. will serve as pallbearers.
The Lutz family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to New Jerusalem Lutheran Church Building Fund, 2120 Startown Rd., Hickory, NC 28602.
