Born October 1, 1931, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Spencer and Ethel McGee Spencer.
She was a loving and beloved teacher, where she taught many years in the Newton-Conover public school system and retired from the governor’s office as the NC State Representative for Title 9.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jerry F. Walton; daughters, Nora Cox and Ann Walton.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Donna Walton, Barbara Pate and husband, Johnny; son, Allen Walton and wife, Jenny; brothers, Kenneth E. Spencer and wife, Phyllis,
Carl R. Spencer; grandchildren, Donald Bennett and wife Sylvia, Tina Teal and husband, Dean, Stradley Smith, Storey Sears,and husband, Mike, Tasha Pate and husband, Greg, Kevin Pate and wife, Jennifer, Jennifer Pate; 3 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, including, Beverly Spencer Foster and husband, Barry, Carla Spencer and husband, Tom Barry, Dawn Spencer Kilby and husband, Michael, Kevin Spencer and wife, Debbie, Greg Spencer and wife, Tammie, Brent Spencer and wife Hope; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home in Newton.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Salvation Army, 750 3rd Avenue Place, SE, Hickory, NC 28602.
