

Bob was born in Newton on March 29, 1939, to the late Arthur and Mary Lucille Hampton Saunders. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Hope Saunders Abernethy and Carol Lee Saunders and a brother, Mac Arthur Saunders.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Brenda Bost Saunders; daughters, Fran Saunders, Stacey Saunders Gregory (Larry) both of Newton; a son, Keith Saunders (Christal) of Vale; four grandchildren, Chasity Saunders-Miller (Aaron), Mya Saunders Banner (Neal), Zan Saunders (Emma) and Cheryce Gregory; a great grandchild, AJ Sheppard; a baby Saunders due August 2024, 2 brothers, Jack Saunders and Jim Saunders (Teresa) an honorary granddaughter, Sieara and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.
Bob was a devout Christian who loved God and lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Newton, NC, where he served in many different roles including youth counselor, board of trustees, Emmanuel Emmaus, Love Labor Corp., Carolina Cross Connection, ECCCM, and 21 mission teams to build churches in both the United States and abroad. Bob also served in Bible Study Fellowship and helped build many homes with Habitat for Humanity and volunteered with the Red Cross disaster relief and other community outreach programs for many years.
Bob retired from both Western-Southern Life and Newton volunteer Fire Department with over thirty years of service in each.
A celebration of life for Bob will take place at First United Methodist Church in Newton, NC, on Saturday, January 13, at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends at the church welcome center from 12:30 to 1:45 pm.
