Curtis was born in Florence, South Carolina on February 1, 1939 to the late Emerson and Dorothy (Cusack) Balmer. Curtis grew up in Livingston before settling in Sussex County in 1962. He served in United States Army from 1957-1960 and continued his service in the National Guard until his retirement. Curtis was an exempt Newton Volunteer Fireman with hose company number 3 and a very proud Masonic Lodge Member.
The beloved husband to the late Grace Balmer, Curtis was survived by his daughters, Deborah Doty and her husband, Bob and Carole Olinger; his grandchildren, Nicole Garrett (Dan), Tyler Olinger (Brianna), Kyle Olinger (Jessica), Jordyn Olinger, Jadynn Doty and Billie Balmer and his great-grandchildren, Jacob and Vivienne Garrett and Elaina and Blaire Olinger and many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents and wife, Curtis was predeceased by his son, William Lloyd Balmer and his siblings, Ronald and Gail.
A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton, NJ 07860. A masonic service will begin at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made out to Kittatinny Masonic Lodge #164, 336 US Route 206, Branchville NJ 07826. Condolences may be offered to the family below.
