A beloved member of our family was lost on September 9th when Elaine Geddes ("Mambo") passed away comfortably in her home surrounded by her loved ones. Elaine was born on September 29, 1945 to Edward and Charlotte (Lebrecht) DuBarry of Towaco. She was one of six children. She attended Boonton High School and later worked as a caregiver at the Lincoln Park Care Center. She was married in 1964 to Walter Neilson Geddes Jr. Together they raised their daughter Lisa (Geddes) Compas.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her two brothers, and her daughter. She is survived by her sisters Jeanette and Charlotte, brother Daniel, four grandchildren (Christopher, Jordan, Brianna, and Devyn), and her nieces and nephews.
Her family has many summer memories spent in Canada cliff jumping, lounging in the lake, and sitting around the fire sharing stories with her. She had a strong love for all animals, especially loons and other birds. She was a wonderful cook and baker. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she will be deeply missed by many.
Although we would love to have everyone who knew and loved Elaine to join us in celebrating her life, due to COVID-19 we will be holding a private service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Elaine’s name to the American Cancer Society. Thank you for your understanding.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton, NJ.
