Robert H. Evans Jr., 83, of Newton, NJ passed on June 28, 2022. Robert was born in Morristown, NJ to the late Robert H. Evans Sr. and Martha (Beisel) Evans. He was raised in Morris Plains and Mendham NJ. Robert was a longtime resident of Madison, NJ before moving his family to Great Meadows. In 2018, he moved to Bristol Glen to continue to be with and provide care for his wife, Carolyn, as she declined in health from dementia.
Robert was a Postal Carrier for the United States Postal Service in Madison and Hackettstown, NJ. During his time with the United States Post Office, Bob participated in the Great Postal Strike of 1970 to fight for better labor conditions and pay increases, among other issues. After 38 years of service, he retired in 1995.
Bob was a graduate of The New York School of Photography and also volunteered at the Warren County Library, where he would help people track their genealogy. He participated in the Postal Food Drive yearly, continuing for many years after retirement. Bob was also an avid New Jersey Devils fan.
Robert is predeceased by his wife, Carolyn M. Evans, and his brother, John Evans. He is survived by his three children; Theresa E. Fiedler (Vincent), Robert H. Evans III, and Virginia R. Evans; along with his 5 Grandchildren; Andy Fiedler (Sibel), Jim Fiedler (Elysia), Becky Fiedler-Giordano (Chris), Matthew Evans, and Maria Evans.
Memorial Services will be held Sunday, July 24, 2022 at 12 p.m. at the Free United Methodist Church, 3 Marble Hill Rd, Great Meadows (Liberty Twp), NJ. A repast is to follow at Mattar's Bistro on Rt 517 in Allamuchy.
