Amalia Emilie Plata

Passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 14, 2026, at the age of 98. She was predeceased by her beloved parents, Thomas and Elizabeth (Zamarlik) Kobik; her cherished husband, Stanley (1960); and her beloved son-in-law, Robert “Bob” Muir (2018).

Lovingly remembered by her children, Elizabeth, Kenneth (Mary), Sandra (the late Robert Muir), and Lorelei; her grandchildren, Jeffrey (Jessie), Greg (Lauren), Leeanne (Curtis), and Johnathon; great-grandchildren, Sloan, Ronin, Charlie, and Dylan; and several nieces and nephews, in particular Denis, Valerie, and Brian.

Emilie graduated from Loretto Academy, a place she cherished and where she made many fond memories with her friends and sisters. She always looked forward to school reunions and the opportunity to see everyone. She was a devoted member of St. Patrick’s Church, where she was married. She was also a member of the CWL at St. Patrick’s and enjoyed being part of the breakfast club and spending time with the ladies she worked alongside. Emilie was a member of the GNGH Women’s Auxiliary and always looked forward to working in the gift shop and meeting new people. She was also very fond of her co-workers at Martin Shepherd Law and the ladies she worked with at Reitmans.

A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Emilie always loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved playing Scrabble, sharing conversations and laughs with her grandson Jeffrey and Jessie, and so much more. Sloan and Ronin always warmed her heart and brought a smile and a twinkle to her eye. They always made her day.

Emilie enjoyed golfing with her friends Susan and Donna, her grandson Jeff and his friend Alex, her son-in-law Bob, her nieces Diane, Valerie, and Nancy, and the many other friends she made along the way.

Emilie had a passion for golf and started playing after she retired. She played her last game at the age of 96. She was always ready to golf and could always hit a straight ball. She was an exceptional putter, using only three clubs: her driver, 5-iron, and putter, with the occasional 7-wood. I know the golf gods were waiting for her.

Emilie also enjoyed travelling, something she never thought she would have the opportunity to do. She was always amazed and thankful that she was able to see a small part of the world, from Hawaii to Europe and Iceland, the Caribbean, and the East and West Coasts of Canada. She enjoyed golfing on the permafrost in Alaska, to the desert in Nevada, Volcanic Island of Maui, to the swamplands of Disney. She loved it all and could never say which was her favourite, because they all were.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Ali Al-Baldawi and the staff at the VON organization, who provided evening care for Emilie, especially Isaac, whose care and compassion always made Mom feel safe and comfortable when you were present. This comfort extended to the entire family as well. The family would also like to thank all of the nurses and PSWs who always showed such patience and care toward Mom. You know who you are, and there are simply too many to name. Our heartfelt thanks also go to the EMS staff and paramedics who attended the home when needed. We cannot say enough about the professionalism and kindness you showed, not only to our mother, but also to our family. We are also grateful to the Alzheimer Society, who were always just a telephone call away when assistance was needed, and to Ontario Health at Home for providing the services our mother needed. We thank you all and are truly grateful for the care and compassion you showed Emilie and our family. God bless you all.

Visitation will be held at Heather & Dean Funeral Home, 5176 Victoria Avenue, Niagara Falls, in the chapel, on Monday, September 21, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, 4673 Victoria Avenue, Niagara Falls, Ontario, on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society, Food bank or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
