Audrey Joan Cousineau

Audrey passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at the age of 87, predeceased by her husband Neil. Beloved mother to Candy, Melody, the late Brenda, Neil, and Juliette, and grandmother to Kerry, Brandy, Kristine, Caitlin, and Daina. She is also missed by many great-grandchildren, in-laws, friends, and loved ones.

Audrey was born in Niagara Falls in 1935 to Agnes Teresa Jones and Henry Gladstone White, one of nine children. As a child Audrey most enjoyed playing with her younger siblings. Audrey met Neil as a teenager, and they married in 1953. After a few years of savings, Audrey and Neil bought their forever home on McRae Street, which for over half a century hosted countless family parties and get-togethers.

Audrey lived her whole life in Niagara Falls. Her work in food services at the Niagara Falls Hospital was a source of pride for her, as was her position as a Union Steward. It was through this job Audrey met many lifelong friends. After her retirement, Audrey filled her days with gatherings between family and friends, grand adventures travelling across Canada, and an array of hobbies including ceramics, reading (particularly murder mysteries), and a weekly card club, which she hosted for decades. Summers at the family cottage on Buckhorn Lake consisted of canoeing, fishing, swimming, campfires, daytrips to Bobcaygeon, and many more fun activities. This was always the highlight everyone’s year, and Audrey ensured that everyone at the cottage was always cared for and well-fed.

Later in life Audrey’s favourite hobby was sitting on her front porch with a cup of tea, chatting with anyone who came by. She was always prepared to share the knowledge of whatever interesting article or documentary she’d recently encountered. Her trips to the Coronation Centre with friends were also a valued part of her weekly routine. In between, Audrey attended every birthday party, wedding, graduation, and special event. She will be remembered as a strong, caring individual, and deeply missed by everyone who knew her.

A celebration of life service for Audrey will be held Thursday, August 3, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Hetherington & Deans Funeral Chapel, 5176 Victoria Avenue, Niagara Falls.
