Heaven has gained a new shining star. Surrounded by the love of her family, Barbara peacefully left this world to begin a new chapter at the remarkable age of 93.
Barbara was predeceased by her beloved parents, Grant and Ethel (McQuillan) Bennett; her cherished husband, Chuck (2003); her son, Rick (2016); and her son-in-law, Richard Benoit (2014). She was also predeceased by her brothers and sisters-in-laws, Donald (Faye) and Robert (June) Bennett.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter, Carol Ann Benoit (Caesar Condino); her grandchildren, Heather Leslie Kohnle, Eric Kohnle, and Kai Somerville (Sudeep Sanyal); and her beloved great-grandchildren, Brianna and Leif Leslie, and Ayana Sanyal.
Nursing and caring for others was not just Barbara’s profession, it was her passion and a part of who she was. She graduated as a nurse in 1954 from the old Greater Niagara General Hospital and began her career working in OBS before continuing her nursing journey in private medical practice. Even after retirement, Barbara’s caring nature never retired. She loved being needed and was always ready to help a neighbour, friend, or family member in need. Often arriving prepared with her thermometer, blood pressure cuff, and stethoscope.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Tariq Al-Shujairi, our caseworkers Emily (Ontario Health at Home) and Dale (Alzheimer’s Society) and the incredible, caring staff at Gilmore Lodge.
Barbara’s family will receive visitors on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Heatherington and Deans Funeral Chapel, 5176 Victoria Avenue, Niagara Falls, Ontario. A chapel service celebrating Barbara’s life will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
In memory of Barbara, donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, the Alzheimer Society or charity of one's choice. Online Condolences can be made on www.hetheringtonanddeans.com
