Charles Bernard

Born in the United States, Charly spent his early years growing up in the Port Colborne area before making St. Catharines his home for much of his adult life. A familiar and friendly presence, he could often be found in the downtown core of the city of St Catharines, where he connected with many people over the years and became a respected and well-liked member of the community.

More than 30 years ago, Charly began receiving support from Gateway Residential and Community Support Services as he worked toward living independently in the community. Throughout his journey, he built meaningful relationships and remained appreciative of the many individuals who supported him along the way. Charly would want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who played a role in his life.

Charly was known for his simple pleasures and routines, including his love for sweets and his enjoyment of a good cigarette—small comforts that were very much a part of who he was.

Charly was predeceased by his mother, Brenda, and his father, Isaac, who are laid to rest at Doan Cemetery in Port Colborne.

Charly will be remembered for his presence, his connections with others, and the many lives he touched throughout the Niagara Region.

A graveside service will be held in Thorold on June 29th at 11:00 am at Lakeview Cemetery 3651 Thorold Townline Rd, Thorold, L2V 3Y5 . All who had the privilege of knowing Charlie are warmly invited to attend.

In keeping with his wishes, a pizza lunch gathering will follow the service to celebrate his life and share memories together at Gateway Residential and Community Support Services Head Office at 15 Pine Street, Thorold.  

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
