Beloved wife of the late Michael Morris Wasyluk (1995). Mrs. Wasyluk was predeceased by her parents John and Elsie Burdeny and predeceased by her loving son Brian Wasyluk and granddaughter Hillary Wasyluk. She is survived by her son Wayne Wasyluk and his wife Suzanne, by her daughter-in-law Cheryl Wasyluk, and by her brother Larry (Rowena) Burdeny. Baba, as she was called, will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Michael (Lauren) Wasyluk, Stefanie (Thomas) Wilson, Jaclyn (Greg Noseworthy) Wasyluk, Ryan Wasyluk, Paige Wasyluk, and Keeley Wasyluk; and by her great-grandchildren Waverley and Renleigh Wasyluk. Auntie Doreen and her stories will be sadly missed by her many nieces and nephews.
Doreen was born in Ethelbert, Manitoba and married the love of her life, Morris Wasyluk, before moving to Niagara Falls where they raised two sons. During early family life she looked forward to summer vacations which consisted of long drives back home to Manitoba reuniting with her parents, brother and her extended Wasyluk family. She loved family and family gatherings, rarely missing weddings, anniversaries, parties or church socials.
The majority of Doreen's career was spent working in the bottling department of Chateau Gai Wines in Niagara Falls. She became an active union representative at the winery and retired (from Vincor) in 1994.
After her husband's passing, Mrs. Wasyluk spent some time travelling with family and friends, taking a boat cruise to Alaska, with trips to Branson, Missouri, Israel and to the Ukraine.
Doreen was an active bowler for many years, attended Bible study classes, sang with the Jay Singers choir, and joined aquatic fitness classes until she was no longer able to do so.
Doreen was an active parishioner of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Niagara Falls. She was a Church Board member and remained the Church Treasurer upon her passing. Doreen did not trust computer spreadsheets maintaining meticulous records using only pencil and paper.
Doreen loved people and people loved her. She had many friends and neighbours in Niagara Falls, often meeting someone she knew while in line at the bank, or at the grocery store.
In 2019, at the age of 83, Doreen was diagnosed with cancer, fought through an operation and treatments with strength and determination and ultimately became a cancer survivor.
Special thank you to Father Viktor Nazarchuk, Oksana and their family, her close friends and neighbours, and to the extended Wasyluk family who made Doreen feel like a loved sister and aunt. Thank you to Dr. Mithula Tharmabala at the Walker Family Cancer Centre in St. Catharines and to Nurse Daniella at Niagara General Hospital with whom she created a special bond.
The family will receive friends at Patterson Funeral Home, 6026 Main St. Niagara Falls, on Saturday, February 14, 2026 from 11 a.m.- 1p.m. with a service in the funeral home chapel at 1 p.m. Rite of Committal to follow in Fairview Cemetery.
